Subject: The thing about Andrea is that not only she was 1st runner-up in Cali & New York. She was also a 2nd runner-up at state Teen. I do not recall the state off the top of my head, it was probably Pennsylvania. There must be something about her. I actually can't take my eyes off of her pics, she is so interesting... I felt the same when Deshauna first competed at VA USA and then at US Intl. I simply could not take my eyes off of her pics! Having said that, I agree that so few known girls competing is surprising. I believe girls just figured out that this past decade the state sash stopped counting for much at Miss USA... so winning Oregon, Urah, Montana, etc... still does give you a chance to become the Miss USA. Last year, both Cali's Miss and Teen failed to make the cut. It last happened in 2012 and before that in 2004. By the way, Starla Smith looks great on this pic, but she is one of the more rounder girls... that is why her missing top 15 in this year's Nevada is not surprising.

California is 15% Asian yet California USA has only ever crowned two part Asian winners.

[> [> Subject: I remember Louise Wu on Ellen before the 2010 pageant how she emphasized that fact. She only competed in one season though and made top 10. But I am quite surprised at the lack of winner of Asian descent, there have been a lot of them in Miss Cali MAO.

[> [> [> Subject: AFAIK California MAO has had three full Asian winners: Rita Ng (2000), Crystal Lee (2013), Eileen Kim (2019). I think Veena Goel (2004) and Kristy Cavinder (2009) are part Asian, but can't find anything online to confirm. Arianna Afsar (2010) is half Bangladeshi.

Notice how all of California MAO's Asian winners are in the last 20 years.

[> [> Subject: In the last 30 years, CA USA has crowned three delegates of part Asian heritage: Diane Schock (1/4 Philippine), Raquel Beezley (1/4 Philippine), and Allyshia Gupta (1/4 Indian). This is a state where Asians are 15% of the population, and have a long history there.
