Subject: I'm about to start some mess! Are there any Miss Universe delegates that you met (as a fan) and things kinda turned sour?

In 2010, I stayed at Mandalay Bay the weekend before the final competition. I had breakfast at Bayside Buffet one morning just so I could see the delegates when they came in to eat. I walked up to Miss Trinidad and Tobago and asked to take a picture with her. This woman said to me that she "couldn't take pictures while she had food," which I already knew because Miss Venezuela had just told me the same thing (and was gracious enough to put her plate down and take a pic with me). T&T didn't even have a plate in her hand. She just didn't want to take a pic with me (which is her right). But, she looked at me like I had just walked out of the Las Vegas sewer. I was so humiliated. A few seconds later I saw Miss Jamaica, who looked FREAKING GORGEOUS, but my self-esteem had taken such a tumble that I could not handle the possiblity of her telling me to kick rocks. I don't think she would have; the encounter with T&T just messed me up. To this day, I regret not meeting Jamaica.

Oh yeah, that same morning, I was just sitting down eating and looked up at Miss Canada. She rolled her eyes at me as if to say, "there is no way you could get with this." I wanted to yell out, "I'm gay. Get over yourself. I like MENZZZ!!!" But, I just sat there dismayed. LOL. I was so happy when neither T&T or Canada made the TOP 15. Being nice to pageant fans goes a long way. And, karma is indeed a ...

[> Subject: I encountered somewhat similar at Miss USA 2009 in Vegas. My ex and I was having dinner in the buffet at Planet Hollywood then all the girls walked in: just so happen my table was in next to the delegates section. New Jersey that year cold as rocks. Arizona was the most flexible. And Crysyle Stewart has my heart to this day because she came over to my table and actually sat down for a few minutes and asked me who did I want to meet most amongst the group and she brought Arizona over. Miss Universe 2012, still in Vegas, I was in love with Georgia. And post prelims she was a heavy favorite. Obviously, she failed to make the cut and once the girls were released I saw her in the casino and she more or less rolled her eyes at me and mumbled something in a language. Coincidentally, I remember Sri Lanka has a nervous breakdown at the check out lobby because she did not make the cut and Maurtious smoking LOL. Those were the days.

[> [> Subject: You remember B/Bpageants/Cookie Dough? That guy was bringing up the fact that Suzie Castillo apparently ignored him, was unpleasant and was replying with short sentences to his questions. He was bitter about it znd mentioned it many times over the years. Though we need to take into account that he was behind Oasis along with Fred (the troll), oz usb and Hooked... so I would not necessarily trust this gossip about Susie.

[> [> Subject: I, too, had an encounter that went rather sour. I ran into a Miss State who did well at Miss USA 2009. She's now moved into another field & I was in a hotel where she was a vendor. Extremely beautiful, nice personality & sweet. Apparently, I talked her ear off & she called security. Shortly thereafter, I ran into her in a restaurant lobby & it was very clear from her interaction with me in the restaurant (extremely huffy, rolling her eyes) that I'd annoyed her pretty badly the first time.

[> [> [> Subject: How dare her be rude to one of her fans. Doesn't she realize that as the years go by those tin crowns get dustier and dustier. Faces, boobs and spirits drop in tandem.....day by day....week by week... year by....well, you get the drift. Pretty soon, nobody will remember that she was a Miss Anything.

[> Subject: I think what youíre describing is part of the reason why some girls donít make the cut. Whomever wins has to represent the brand off stage well. I think muo doesnít want to work with anyone whoís going to be to difficult. I donít even think sash factor will override this. Everyone country will clap at one point or another.

[> Subject: Olivia Jordan was the rudest, she was in Doral with all the 2015 queens wanting to be noticed before finals. She mouthed a slight "Uggh" but obliged with the most exuberant Shandi-laugh selfie with me that turned out really well before running away as fast as she could - so I knew the girl could turn it on for the cameras. No one else ever seemed annoyed by me (7 Universes and 3 USAs attended), so I strike it to them being the bad sports and not me. Oh yeah, Ariadna Gutierrez was also really rude to one of her countrymen outside of rehearsals. She literally rolled her eyes in the angriest manner at him and also mouthed a perturbed Ugggh. The Kween seemed humiliated. I was not shedding any tears for her when she had her moment. Sri Lanka from 2012 I also swore gave me the dirtiest look all the way from stage ( I was in the third row) before all the clappers did their clapper dance, but I think the girl was just devastated LOL.

[> [> Subject: Some of the NICEST - NIA SANCHEZ (she walked by as after the Doral pageant and I screamed USA and she looked back with the most gracious and grateful smile). I ran into her at Runyon Canyon years later (with Mom and husband) and she happily obliged pics with me and my partner. Even cuter - while my partner was taking one of my shots her Mom was taking pics of the whole thing! ALYSSA CAMPANELLA was also very gracious at both Universe 2012 and 2015. She honestly took the time to acknowledge the attention in the sincerest way even though I was a nobody. Stunning photos. Tara Conner was also very nice, as was Leila Lopes, Sylvie Tellier, and honestly any of the Venezuela or Philippines girls.

For the most part, most contestants are actually quite pleasant and happy for the attention.

[> Subject: Alice Panikian. Lovely girl. Met her at an event in Toronto (date was closer to the pageant than present). Not sure what her and her companionsí presence meant at the event. Blessing though that we were surrounded by people and I had to work the room as it made it easy for me to temper my desire to go omg tell meeeee about 2006!I still have to hide my pageant obsession from my professional life. Anyway, she was lanky and kinda awkward. So my type.

[> [> Subject: Why would you have t hind your pageant obsession? I think you no longer live in Canada, but based on my discussions with people both famil, acquitanxes and co-workers, people I don't care either way. You'd never be stigmatized for lknf pageantry in Canada... people take itmore as a quirky, slightly over the top/superficial thing but nothing that really matters at the end... at least that's been the case with me over the years.

[> [> [> Subject: I still split my time between Canada and England. I am in Canada now and will go back to England on the 15th. I hide my love of pageants because I have other hobbies that I can share with my colleagues that are more ďin lineĒ with our philosophy and environment. Pageants are only discussed when something embarrassing goes viral and the comments can get brutal about the perceived characters of the people who participate in them. Itís just not worth the effort to defend it.

[> [> [> [> Subject: I'm in the same situation. I have many hobbies, so pageantry rarely comes into conversation. But I do not especially try to hide it... it's more that people are noi interested to hear about it... even my mother. Imagine that she watches Universe/USA with me some years and she does not remember who won the next day! I am not kidding. In England, it may be Julia Morley's decades long presence that may give a more ridicule air of pageantry, though in recent years Julia seems to be more reserved/less controversial.

[> [> [> [> [> Subject: Right? Itís not easy being a pageant fan. I donít think anyone I work with in the entirety of the UK (and Canada) would even know who Julia Morley is. I am surrounded by colossally judgmental academic snobs to the point that even one of the brightest in our team thinks Jane Austen is a joke. I loved Jane Austen when I was little and I canít even talk about her w/out entering into an hours long debate on why she supposedly sucks. And weíre not even in the literary field. Lol get my dilemma yet? I know I make my colleagues/friends sound like big jerks but they are good people nevertheless.
