USA 1998 Shauna Gambill

Universe 2000 Lara Dutta or sushmita

[> Subject: Winners: Miss USA Brook Lee & Miss Universe Mpule Kwelagobe. Non-winners: Miss USA Shauna Gambill & Miss Universe Madhu Supre. (I know that many are scratching their heads over Madhu Supre, but she gave a natural and honest answer. Madhu was an athlete and it is only natural that she would value physical fitness. She could have given a fake "save the children" speech, but she didn't. I will always appreciate her unrehearsed appeal).

[> [> Subject: I love Madhu Supre! I was hoping she would be India's first Miss Universe. I remember her standing on stage waiting to introduce herself and thinking, she looks like a goddess. I thought they wouldn't put her in the top ten, but she kept advancing and I was getting more excited that she would win the crown for India.

[> [> Subject: I have agreed with Madhu's answer, even when she was critisized for it. She perfectly explained she was an athlete so her reply made complete sense. Plus, she was so mysteriously beautiful. I would've crowned her that night on the spot.

[> [> Subject: I don't remember Shauna's "...then I would call my daddy..." answer, but I do know Shanna Moakler said that at Miss USA 1995. I didn't want her to win because that answer made her sound like a spoiled, rich brat LOL.

[> [> [> Subject: Shauna's reply came out as that, "then I would call my daddy and have him come help me" during the Top 3 question about dating violence in high school. Lol, yes, I do recall thinking the same thing about Shanna when she replied after losing/spending/whathaveyou $2000.00 in a month! Remember, "the checkbook"?

[> Subject: UNIVERSE: "When I say the wrong things." I was not a huge fan of Oxana, but I have to say this was the perfect answer to that rather silly question ("What makes you blush?") I've always wondered what they would have done if a black contestant had been in the Top 5 that year? Did they have another question ready? In any case, it was a question that was only worthy of a 6-word answer and Oxana nailed it, LOL. TEEN: I don't think anyone will ever beat Kayleigh Garris's answer in the last Teen USA pageant. USA: I dunno. I thought Sarah Rose Summer's answer in 2018 was pretty awesome. But nothing else jumps to mind at the moment.

[> Subject: I'm on board with Shauna Gambill's outstanding final answer. Recently, some Miss USA winners rose to the occasion with well-composed responses. Yet when Summer Bartholomew won, Bob Barker had to stop & clarify -- then Summer gave a truncated answer. Nevertheless, the panelists cut her some slack & she was crowned.
