...at this year's Miss USA 2021 pageant would have garnered a better placement than Elle at Miss Universe 2021?

Anyone in the Top 8? Top 16? A clapper? No one?

[> [> Subject: I never bought into the hype with ND. I too doubt she would have made Top 10. And in the pic above, TX looks like an emaciated Susan Lucci lookalike and I want nothing more than to tear that Flintstone's Dino sleeve off SC's gown. FL is the only contestant I feel could have perhaps narrowly squeaked into Top 5 but I doubt it would have happened.

I'll copy Julie Moran from MU 2000 when discussing Claudia Moreno's seafoam green and silver tinsel dress by saying, "I didn't know if I liked it at first but I think I do."

[> Subject: It’s great that they all were happy for Elle! This photo captures a really beautiful moment in pageantry. As for the question, I actually was thinking about that last night!! I think none of them would’ve made top 5 because they all lacked some stage presence/catwalk. Maryland arguably had better stage presence and catwalk but she is not as facially strong. Before hearing Q&A, I feel North Carolina would’ve done well for her height and stage presence but after hearing her talk in finals, I don’t think the judges would’ve been as impressed as they would with Elle. Hence the conclusion is, as much as Crystle tried to train them, there isn’t really any Miss Universe worthy ladies in this year’s group, if Elle couldn’t make top 5, I don’t think the others would’ve as they also lacked something (facial beauty, catwalk, interview, etc.)

[> [> Subject: I honestly think she most likely had a nude gown in her wardrobe but perhaps after seeing how many nude illusion gowns were used during prelims the strategy was made to go with something that would make her stand out. While I didn't like the final gown she chose, I will say my eye went directly to her when the Top 10 were standing side by side in EG. But I still think she looked better at MUSA.

[> [> [> Subject: I never understood the whole Michael Cinco craze. As of today, no one has ever won wearing one of his gowns. As a matter of fact, he seems to curse the ladies who sport his dresses during prelims. lol Due to the short time between MUSA and MU, there would have been no time to have a custom dress for Elle made, so I agree with you that it was probably some deadstock frock he had in the closet somewhere from a previous season.

[> Subject: Two reasons why I think. 1) Styling - yes she should have gone a little bit more risque. She had that personality to carry it off. Gold actually looks good on her. Her hair should either be left down, or perhaps sleaked back as she has a very beautiful face. 2) Tired. After just winning the Miss USA crown, she then had to rush and compete at Miss Universe, which was more overwhelming. I'm sure she was performing on auto pilot.

I do like her curly locks down as well. But yes, with so little time to prepare, they had to work quickly instead of experimenting with different looks. [> Subject: I think both NC and NC would have made it to the Top 10. Elle should have worn the dress she wore at Miss USA or one of similar styling and color- it was perfect for her. I seriously doubt she wanted to win Miss U. I'm sure she wanted a respectable placement but she knew being Miss USA would be more to her benefit.

[> [> Subject: Now that MUSA has a better prize package than MU and travelling across the US is much easier than travelling abroad due to Covid, any incentive (other than bragging rights) to win MU has gone down the drain. I wonder how this will play out in the future when it comes to MUSA winners at MU.

It was fluffy in during the intros (a look I personally did not care for) but she gradually slicked it back as we see in the image above. I still prefer the way she styled her hair in her official headshot most.
