For all the guys that was concerned about the race in San Antonio, for August 30th weekend. It's a NO GO. for the Ultimate Street.
I myself still like to see some particiaption towards the COTT. It was one of a kind, to the Houston & San Antonio area, to bring racers together to show each side to the state what the two cities got. During my ten years of Clash supporter, I have never seen a harder working guy in the business on bringing racers together, across the country. I myself will always support him in everyway I can, I still feel that the Clash is still the leader in the 10.5 Outlaw racing.
Our next race here will be in Houston @ HRP Sept. 20th, Put this date on your calenders to be there. Who will be the next winners in the Ultimate Street Class.
Thank you guys for your participation and efforts to make this class happen.
O.T.T.A. Guys well you all know, Super Street is waiting @ COTT. be there don't be square.

You never know who's going to win in Ultimate Street, and we present two first time winners & runner-up to the class.
David Wagner Winner
Jason Traugott Runner-up
Congratulation to these two guys for putting there efforts in making the turn around in this class. Its goes to show that its an anybody race this year.
Want to say thanks for Tracy Laurson, Ray Garcia for joining in with us this weekend to add more power to this class. You guys for the first time was awsome, Tracy with her new power plant BBC, show us that the guys better watch out, she is out to win her one. Ray Garcia has brought the first Plymouth to the class, He told me that as you see I got the leaving down pat, When I find the top in, look out, I want to be the new sheriff in town.

Now what happen to our top speed runners. Jason (Hick-up) M. No. 1 Qualifier @ 5.29, Chad (carb cover)Smallwood, Chris (red eye)Calhoun. Well things happen, even to the best. Chris & Chad was so out done, they decided to beat up on each other with a grudge race in the second round, for a quick $100. to the winner. Chad Smallwood would says I got to go home with something, and he did.
Guys lets them cars out of the garage, and join the best growing class in the Houston area. We take out of towner too.
TO BEAT SOMEBODY, YOU GOT TO BE THERE....

At the last race I handed out a RPM Magazine Interview sheet to everyone. If you could please bring those filled out so I can keep them on file for writing articles. I don't have a problem doing interviews and such during the race but most of you are busy working on your cars and getting ready for the next round. This will help keep the information I need to a minimum and let you guys race. Some have sent them back to me but the majority have not. So please track me down at the race this weekend and get those to me! Good Luck to everyone and see you at the race either Friday Night or Saturday!

Tommy Franklin, driving his brand new Garret Racecars Camaro, walked away from a horrific accident during testing. Franklin, in the left lane, got out of shape around 200ft & headed towards the centerline. The car then shot back across the lane impacting the concrete wall extremely hard, launching the car into the air, then landing back on the racing surface & barrell rolling multiple times before finally coming to a rest on the driver side. Emergency personnel were on the scene immediately & Franklin emerged from the wreckage under his own power.

Pictures to follow shortly.

R.I.P. Gary and Lisa

Author:

[Edit] Date Posted: 00:51:47 07/24/08 Thu
Gary McPherson, 41, and his wife Lisa Lauraine McPherson, 40, had traveled out of town to see their son, 17-year-old Russell McPherson, compete in the Texas State 4-H Horse Show.
“Russell, Lisa and Gary had gone up there for a 4-H riding competition,” said Sheila Hamman, Gary McPherson’s sister.
Sunday afternoon, the couple went out for a ride on the motorcycle and never returned, she said.
“The parents down there (for the 4-H competition) called the police,” Hamman said. “That’s when they found out they were killed in an accident.”
Abilene police arrived on the accident scene sometime before 2 p.m. Sunday and determined the cause of the fatal crash.
“They were traveling own (East) Overland Trail which is an access road,” said Officer Loren Adlesperger of the Abilene Police Department.
A 1998 Pontiac four-door car had the right of way and was trying to merge onto I-20. The motorcycle failed to yield, and hit the right side of the Pontiac.
Gary McPherson, who was operating the motorcycle, died at the scene.
His wife was taken to Hendrick Medical Center where she later died.
The driver of the Pontiac suffered minor injuries.
Police are still investigating the accident but unless the Pontiac driver’s blood results come back positive for alcohol, he will not be given a ticket since he had the right of way.
But officers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
“Any area that merges onto a freeway can be a dangerous area,” Adlesperger said.
The officer added that he does think the fact that the victims were not wearing helmets did have something to do with the severity of their injuries.
The McPhersons were unable to witness their son’s drill team, the Liberty County Rebel Riders, win second place Tuesday. But family members of the couple are thankful for all the group did for Russell – even going as far as to raise money to get him back home.
Russell McPherson will be a senior at Ross S. Sterling High School this year. His sister Regina McPherson, 20, and the siblings’ parents also graduated from Sterling.
Lisa McPherson was a member of the Baytown Youth Fair and loved horses.
“Lisa’s always been into FFA,” said Sheila Hamman, Gary’s McPherson’s sister.
Her brother was a welder at a chemical plant, enjoyed working on race cars in his spare time and owned Door Slammers Chassis.
Lisa McPherson has helped her sister Paula Winters at her store PJ’s Backlot & Feed Emporium Inc. on Decker Drive for 13 years.
She grew up on Wade Road with siblings Winters of Baytown, Katherine Lauraine, (now deceased), Ester Bearden of Crosby, George G. Lauraine and parents Lois and George of Baytown and out-of-state siblings Sandy Harding, Michael Lauraine and Belinda Lauraine.
“They were just wonderful people,” Hamman said of the couple.

The couple that grew up in the Baytown-Highlands area attended local schools and worked locally were well known in the community.
Winters said her sister would be remembered as someone who loved helping people.
“She would help anybody. I mean anybody,” Winters said. “Gary and Lisa were loved by a lot of people.”
Funeral arrangements for the McPhersons have not yet been arranged, but a fund has been set up to cover funeral costs and help the two children they left behind.
Anyone interested in donating to the benefit fund can do so by calling any Woodforest Bank in the area and donating to the account, No. 1127327284.
The number for Woodforest Bank on Garth Road in Baytown is 713-495-8105. The Highlands branch can be reached at 713-495-8070.

Once again we have lost one of our own to a fatal accident, Gary & Lisa of Doorslammers Racing. For the ones that new him, he was one of the best of our chassis guys of the Houston / Baytown area and a fellow racer.
I will miss the days I stood on the starting line with him trading our opinions and thoughts.
Let us all take time out, to put his family in our prayers, Gary & Lisa, will truly be missed during our time, but his memory will still move on with the cars that he built and stood behind.
The way to go Gary, you were head of the Game in racing.

first want to say thanks to Bonnie and Traci for having a great place for these guys to race and a place for me to take some great Heads-Up photos and write about it! I got some pretty good photos from the race and have posted them on my photography site. I passed out some RPM Racer interview sheets to all the True 10.5 and Ultimate Street racers. I got a couple back filled out but need the rest from you. So please E-mail me and I will give you my Home Address in the E-mail for you to send to me. That is unless you want to scan them and make a PDF File out of them and E-Mail it! Either way is fine. That information helps me write the feature articles along with addition E-Mails and phone calls. Fred and his crew at the track did a pretty good job getting the track to come around from all the heat but the little bit of rain actually cooled things off a little. The next full race feature that I will be doing is the HRP 9/20/08 race and then the 10/18/08 big High Velocity Race as per the editor. The mini racer features and race recaps will be done on the in between races. Anyway It was fun to be there but I was one tired puppy by the end of the race! The LaQuinta in Vidor sure felt good! See ya at the races!

Thanks to everyone who ran with us last night. The rains caused some delays but all in all it was a good race.

We had full fields in all classes including the 5.80 index and the bracket races and over 100 cars came out to suppport us.

I Don't have all the Accutie sheets. But I will try and get them up latter.

The Clash of the Titans

Baytown Battle Nationals

CANCELLED

It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of The Clash of the Titans Baytown Nationals previously scheduled for July 12th at Houston Raceway Park.

Although we have held the Baytown Nationals over the same weekend for the last five years, and after failed attempts to consider the rescheduling of another event to be held at another Houston track on the same date, The Clash of the Titans has elected to cancel its race. We feel that this cancellation will eliminate the need for racers to choose one event over another, and will allow the racers, the fans, and the sport to benefit, by putting on the best possible show. We wish luck to the other track and hope that in the future they may also do the same for other race promoters and the best interest of the sport of drag racing.

The Clash of the Titans next event will be The Labor Day Nationals in San Antonio on August 30th. We look forward to seeing everyone there and hope that everyone understands our decision.

He did not like that I put Bad Chad out in front of him on the flyer, he said that just ain't rite - he done put him on the trailer once at the Dale, so he is going to clean house this race (lol).

Ok Guys, you wanted it now you got it. Freddy has changed the format for you to 1/8 mile this season. Freddy has given us his support, helped advertise and announce, so any of you that want an additional race this season, here is the place to get it.

Let's show Houston what OTTA's got. When money comes to Houston, we should keep it in Houston. Go Get That Cash!

See you at the races!

For the second time ADRL postpones Tulsa event

(6-11-2008) O’FALLON, MO — The Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard announced today that its 2nd annual Shelor.com Spring Drags have been postponed from June 20-21 to Oct. 3-4 at Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma. Although new tickets reflecting the October dates will be printed and distributed, all previously distributed tickets will be honored.

“Unfortunately, this is the second time I’ve had to make this announcement,” ADRL President Kenny Nowling said, referring to the previous postponement of the event’s originally scheduled April dates to June due to severe flooding at the facility. “But short- and long-term weather forecasts are calling for even more rain and we know from experience that would ruin any attempt to put on the type of event the ADRL is known for. As disappointing as it may be, it’s only fair to our race teams and fans to make this decision now and save them the time, trouble and expense of traveling for nothing.”

Track owner Dan Guterman said he agrees with and supports the ADRL’s decision to postpone the event.

“Nobody is more disappointed than me with this second delay, but I also realize it’s the right decision for all parties concerned,” Guterman stated. “We’re very excited about the ADRL coming to Tulsa Raceway Park and the added wait is going to be almost unbearable, but we completely support Kenny and the ADRL in this action. It’s the right decision.”

Nowling reiterated his desire to act in the best interests of ADRL racers and fans, especially in regard to the record-high fuel costs both groups are currently facing.

“After making long, expensive trips, our race teams and fans deserve to be able to compete in or see a race, but I’m not confident that could happen in less than two weeks at Tulsa ,” Nowling explained. “ Tulsa Raceway Park is a top-notch facility and also deserves to showcase itself, so while I’m anxious to bring the excitement of ADRL competition there, I think this move to October will benefit everyone.”

The next race on the ADRL’s nine-event 2008 schedule is the 2nd annual Shelor Motor Mile Independence Drags July 4-5, at Motor Mile Dragway in Radford , Virginia . The 2nd annual ADRL Shelor.com Spring Drags will now be held Oct. 3-4, at Tulsa Raceway Park , following the ADRL’s Hushpower Dragstock V Sept. 12-13, at Rockingham , North Carolina .

Houston Raceway Park continues improvements with new pit space

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6/10/2008

The owners of Houston Raceway Park have been hard at work for the last two months completely resurfacing and expanding the Professional pit area to update and improve the racing facility. Up next, the track surface will be smoothed using state-of-the-art equipment.

"We listened to the racers, and we listened to O'Reilly Auto Parts, and we are taking the necessary steps to make Houston Raceway Park the absolute best it can be," said track General Manager Seth Angel. "As soon as the O'Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals had cleared out of here, our crews went to work on the pits, and the result is fantastic.

"This racetrack is just 11 feet above sea level and no more than half a mile from the bay. The ground is always shifting, and it presents problems from time to time. We're committed to making sure we're on top of every change moving forward."

Angel explained a three-step process that his uncle's business, Angel Brothers Enterprises, used to improve the massive pit area. First, the team did base repairs to fix all soft spots, cracks, and damaged areas to stabilize the base. Next, in the level-up phase, two inches of asphalt were poured and smoothed using laser-guided levels. Finally, another 1.75 inches of hardy surface mix (Type C asphalt) was put in place.

The total projected cost of the pour was $400,000. This undertaking marks the first major Professional pit-area improvement since Houston Raceway Park opened in 1987.

The Angel family will next grind and level the racing surface; particular attention will be paid to the 660 feet of concrete from the starting line to midtrack.

"These facility improvements demonstrate the continued commitment of the Angel family to provide a first-class racing facility to the NHRA competitors and all of our local drag racers," said Greg Angel, president of Houston Raceway Park and owner of Angel Brothers Enterprises. "Our family enjoys the sport very much, and we want to make sure everyone enjoys the racing here, from the fans to sponsors to the racers themselves."

*ADRL Makes Most of ‘Tough Weekend’*

MARTIN, MI (June 9, 2008) — It took a little outside-the-box thinking for the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League (ADRL) presented by the National Guard to nearly complete its 4th annual ADRL Pizza Hut Summer Drags at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park at U.S. 131 in Martin, Michigan.

Severe electrical storms interrupted Friday’s and Saturday’s scheduled qualifying and elimination rounds and ultimately damaged the western-Michigan facility’s starting-line equipment, though its timing system remained intact over the eighth-mile course. However, where most drag racing series would have called it a day, ADRL President Kenny Nowling took the radical step of instituting hand-signal starts for competitors in all four ADRL pro classes.

“We have fans here who waited out the rain with us, who came back today expecting to see a race, so that’s what we’re going to give them,”
Nowling said. “Absolutely this has been a tough weekend, but that happens sometimes with any kind of outdoor event. I think we’re just lucky that there’s even an option—however unusual it may be—that allows us to continue. Besides, this should be fun. They’ll be talking about this for a long time.”

Given the remarkably rare circumstances, ADRL racers were offered the chance to opt out of the experiment without penalty, but with the decision to equally split the posted purse and championship points among all drivers still in contention, most agreed to race only for bragging rights and the coveted National Guard Minuteman trophy that accompanies each ADRL national event victory.

“I want one of those,” Pro Extreme driver Frankie Taylor said, pointing to the Minuteman. “Let’s race!”

With one round of Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme Motorcycle in the books before the rains came and just an eight-car field in Extreme 10.5, all four ADRL classes had just three rounds to complete in what one team dubbed “the Arm Drop Racing League” (ADRL).

The experiment went quite well, with most drivers adapting quickly to the outlaw format made popular in 1950s hot rod movies. Mother Nature returned with a vengeance soon after the semi-finals were run, though, leaving only the four finals to be run at the ADRL’s next national event, scheduled for June 20-21, at Tulsa Raceway Park in Oklahoma.

Facing off beneath Nowling's upstretched arms will be Joshua Hernandez and Bob Mandell in Pro Extreme, teammates Billy Harper and Dennis Radford in Pro Nitrous, turbocharged import pilots Brett Rau and Gary White in Extreme 10.5, and Pro Extreme Motorcyclists Scott Gray and T.T.
Jones. The arm-drop start will again be employed, just to keep things fair and consistent for the finalists, Nowling said.

“That was the most fun I’ve ever had at a drag strip,” he declared.
“What a rush to stand up there and give the start signal to my heroes—and that’s what these guys are to me, heroes. The only complaint I have is that my shoulders and arms are killing me know. I’ll have to hit the weight room before we get to Tulsa.”

I would first like to say thanks to everyone for racing at the event. The race was a total success and should continue to grow stronger. The haters have expressed their ignorance on another site only because of their lack of education on business and how a race is promoted, organized and run. What they don't understand is this race was not intended to compete with the High Velocity impact World Final Race that is slated for October which will take major promotion, sponsors and leg work for "The Big Payout" race. this was a points race of many. So with that said i feel it came out great.

Karen Bryant and I have finished the Race Story, Photos and Photo Captions to go in the magazine being printed either Friday or Monday. With the quick deadline for RPM, Karen came over from Alabama to help out with the story, and I have supplied the Photos and Captions for her story.

I have posted on my website at www.ssracingphotography.com photos from last Friday 5-30-08 and will start this evening to go through the event photos that won't be in the magazine.Got some good ones boys and girls! I will keep you posted on the status!

Next Race in Evadale!

Good luck to all of those racing at the Clash!!
Freddy needs your support too! He did a damn good job announcing this weekend.

I see that HRG is attacking Karen Bryant, for that Karen I truly apologize, it is so uncalled for. I appreciate everything that you have done for us at HoustonOutlawRacing.com and OTTA. and I value our friendship, maybe some people think that we are just a couple of ole Georgia girls and maybe they don't know how far we go back considering my dad was a racer in Georgia and your dad was a track owner in Georgia so maybe I should give those that don't know you and introduction..because maybe they don't know what your day job is,

Karen is not only the Director of Race relations for the US (yes the whole US reporting directly to Canada) for RPM, but she also has a strong background in calling bullshit when she see's it, considering the fact that she prepares a defense for the many who put their future in her hands against many Judges and Lawyers, oh and "Certified in the State of Alabama" I might add.

Her Dad owned and operated Warner Robins Dragway in Georgia for 35 years.. So she has been around drag racing all her life and her Dad is in the NHRA Hall of Fame for his Promotional Capability hosting Divisional Races in Division II, so I would think that she does have some marketing skills that rubbed off on her.

This is just a couple of things that I would like to say about Karen but she is person that I hold nothing but respect for. So any of you that don't know Karen, maybe you should because some day you may need her to defend you.

I love you Karen and thanks for being my friend. I hate that the others boards can be so ugly here in Texas but you will not see that out of us here at HoustonOutlawRacing.com

Your true friend,

Hey, its ok...the mentally restrained reside on that "other" board anyway, and besides that, if you are getting a rise out of people you are at least doing something and they are reading what you are posting. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.

Its all good.. but thank you for the sweet words.

I love you too Chickie... was an awesome race, we all know what the deal was. Thats all that really matters, and as soon as I get this recap into RPM Magazine, so will the rest of the world.

Kisses,

You know, I read this board alot just to keep tabs on what is going on over in Texas since RPM Magazine has expanded its coverage capacity in the "big state". I flew from Alabama at the request of Bonnie Webb in support of this 2nd OTTA event, and I promise you, if I did not think it would have been worthwhile, I would not have taken the time to be there with all the racing going on over my way close to home. Coming from a media standpoint and having a Marketing & Business background, with the economy the way it is currently, there are times when you have to re-vamp your marketing concepts.

Actually I suggested that Bonnie Webb attempt this style of marketing. We discussed it in great length. We both have attended ADRL events and carefully studied what it takes to bring the sizeable crowds in on a minimal promotional budget and provide a satisfactory race for both the race teams and the fans. So if you guys want to jump on someone... It will need to be ME because I am the one that told Bonnie Webb - "If if works for Kenny Knowling it will work for you".... Bonnie just furthered the cause... and to be point blank I don't think there was a single solitary fan that left HRP unsatisfied with what they witnessed there. I will vouch for the fact that there were 5,000 plus fans in house at HRP, but who could sit out there all day in the heat? Hard to do. As far as 10.5's purse being cut. Guys, what would you have done had it been your race? If any of you have ever attempted this you know that across the United States that if it is an 8 car minimum qualified field and less than that shows up the purse usually gets cut at the tracks, so this is nothing new and rest assured that Bonnie Webb did throughly disucuss this with the Outlaw 10.5 crew.

This spread in the magazine will be a major feature going to right at 30,000 subscribers in the United States and to 16 foreign countries. It was a good race and it is worthy by my standpoint and my editor shares its value enough to showcase it.

You can't blame someone for trying something new.. sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't, but at least she was brave enough to try. This time it worked. All I know is, the race was a success and its going world wide and if you were there and made it into any rounds at all.. you are going world wide too...

Sounds like a success to me....

Houston Raceway Park and High Velocity Impact want to thank everyone who used their free ticket as admission into the Royal Purple High Velocity Impact Race, Saturday, May 31. Our goal in the distribution of FREE tickets was to show thanks to our existing fan base and race enthusiast, attract new fans to the sport, and activate our marketing partners and sponsors in a non traditional way. We allocated space on the back of our tickets for everyone to fill out their contact information. The majority of tickets redeemed captured the name, address, phone number, and email address of the fans enabling Houston Raceway to better communicate to a broader fan base for upcoming events while at the same time providing our sponsors with valuable information. The joint effort put forth by Houston Raceway, High Velocity Impact Racing, Royal Purple, O'Reilly Auto Parts and many more sponsors and individuals was highly successful as thousands of tickets were redeemed at Saturday's event. Without the generosity of Royal Purple and all of our series and track sponsors these free tickets could not be available to our spectators.

In all forms of motorsports and beyond, attendance is falling. The marketing plan implemented for our High Velocity Impact races was in no way intended to “trick” or deceive anyone. In today's economic environment, rising fuel prices, etc., the expendable income of every household is decreasing substantially. With this said, offering free tickets allows families to experience the excitement of heads up drag racing at a first-class facility for far less than it would cost if parking was free and every adult was charged $15-$20. The $10 fee Houston Raceway Park charged per car to park at Saturday's event was certainly more affordable than the alternative.

The end result is a win-win experience for all, as Houston Raceway and our sponsors receive more valuable exposure, new race fans are introduced to the sport, and the racers get to compete in front of bigger crowds.
