Hi Eddie! The memories you write about David’s obsession with Elvis are very interesting, It must have given him a perspective that hasn’t existed yet before in his life, Because of what Elvis stood and still stands for: Soul and Dignity. As a fan, stardom within a Rock’n’Roll life certainly too.
Most likely David tried to escape from a socalled "normal" life by looking for bigger personal challenges in his life, which he seemed to have found in Elvis combined with an unaware sense about health risks which still most of todays Rock’n’Roll life stylers tend to do by fading out of their awareness. Must have been for Dave like a transcendence in terms of his life coping association. That’s tragic for all us human beings of course.
It must always again be remembered and honoured more than a couple of times that Dave and all you of The Monks must have invested and spent so much time to fulfill all these many stage duties for which you were confirmed to play. Certainly very unhealthy in the length of time. Maybe he already stood there already with one foot in the grave.
I remember the "Transatlantic Feedback" documentary in which the Jimi Hendrix encounter with David is mentioned.
Sounds like a bizarre ceremony regarding his death orbitury participants. After your comments about Dave’s smoking and other habbits I have the impression that his death was the consequence of all the unhealthy (Elvis Rock’n’Roll) life style he lived.
How sad this all is – I was very glad to hear your sight of Dave’s death and the development it lead to it. I only can say how incredible it was to had you here in Frankfurt with him. I never will forget to have spoken to him, Gary and you after the soundcheck before you were heading to the hotel. I think to have even met his wife at the merchandise stand in the foyer of the Mousonturm at this occasion, but I am not sure if it was really Irene as there was no introduction. I also had a few words to you Eddie - maybe you remember me talking about recordings and stuff - and I am very glad for having had the opportunity to see you in Frankfurt. I knew that your plans thereafter were to go to Gelnhausen to visit former acquaintaces. Unfortunately we could not talk more than briefly at the Mousonturm. The show was great. Thanks for being here and the talkings. My condolence to Dave. R.I.P.
For you and Gary best wishes and yet a good start of this year, Take care and maybe we’ll see each other again in this short-termed life.
Best wishes to you and all the people who are also missing Dave in life so much now,
Andreas (Frankfurt am Main, Germany)
