 2 and a half is not too young. Just make sure you only spank for defiance, not for childhood carelessness. I'd suggest just spanking her with your hand over clothes for minor or first offenses. But if the defiance continues, take off her clothes including diaper or underwear and spank her with a ping pong paddle or wooden spoon. You could even whip her naked with a belt, but go easy, and only 3-5 smacks.
