This gothic-toned mystery is set on the tiny island of Winter Haven, off the coast of Maine. Vera, an accountant who finds comfort and order in her life by working with numbers and statistics, goes to the island to bring her brother's body, which had washed up on the shore of Winter Haven, back to Dallas. She is shocked to see that although she has not seen her autistic brother in 20 years he hasn't aged a day since she last saw him. Vera soon discovers there are many secrets to be uncovered on this eerie island. But in spite of her fear of the unknown, hostility of the townspeople and sorrow for the loss of her brother, she finds love with a mysterious and handsome man who owns a run-down mansion on a cliff high above the Atlantic Ocean.
