Hi there,

I got a lab puppy last week Saturday at 8 weeks. She is now 9 weeks 2 days. The breeder weaned her with pronutro and then moved her on to Hills puppy food, when I got her I moved her on to Labrador Royal Canin Puppy Food. She has been fine on it. On the Tuesday I started using Propac Puppy Biscuits as treats for training (I break it up small). She was fine until Sunday morning she got diarrhea, it was like water. Monday was a public holiday so just kept and eye on her, she ate fine, drinks alot of water and is very energitic. Plays with my sons, the kitten and me. Today it has been a lot better more like pudding, but I am still concerned and wonder if I should take her to the vet tomorrow. I checked to see if I could see any worms and I could not see any as the breeder did say she might pass some worms this week.

I am a new lab owner (I have a 5 month old chocolate lab) - she is the first dog that I have ever owned and I want to raise and train her as well as possible. She is quite a high energy pup! Is it true that jogging / biking such a young pup damages their hips and joints? I have read Cesar Millan books and he frequently recommends jogging / biking for young, high energy pups to channel their energy. However, I have started taking my dog to obedience training and the trainer recommended that I avoid running / jumping activities with my dog, to protect her hips.
What is the true story?

Die Klub het 'n waarskuwing teen Zoetje Aucamp. Ek het al vyf labrador hondjies by haar gekoop. Haar diens was onverbeterlik en nog geeneen van die hondjies het enige probleme gehad nie. Ek kan haar enige tyd van die dag of nag bel as ek 'n probleem het en sy was nog altyd behulpsaam en vriendelik. Sy het een nag 2 ure lank met my op die foon gehelp toe my labrador bosluiskoors gehad het om my te onderskraag en raad te gee. Ek sal dit nooit vergeet nie en ek dink nie sy verdien dit wat julle willens en wetens aan haar en haar beeld doen nie. Van haar honde het al groot hoogtes bereik, soos julle sekerlik weet, aangesien julle op hoogte behoort te wees van alle labrador nuus. Sy is 'n absolute aanwins vir die ras en haar bydrae behoort erken te word.

I have grown up in Zimbabwe with Labradors around me most of my life. My grandparents used to breed labradors and had wonderful, sweet natured, intelligent labs. Now that I have my own family, I obviously wanted my boys to experience life with labs. However I was really saddened to realize that there are few 'decent' labradors left in Zim. (never mind PEDIGREE!) The ones that are available are interbreed, history not traceable etc (some 'pedigree' labs have been advertised but no proof). I tried to find out about whether there was a kennel union in Zim, nothing listed in phone book and the website was so old that it was inaccessable! I find this heart breaking!
Therefore I have begun to think that I would like to try restore the labrador breed in Zimbabwe to it's former glory. If anyone could give me advice I would gratefully accept it.
I have just got a pedigree chocolate male from some wonderful breeders in South Africa. I am awaiting his KUSA number,then he will be registered with KUSA (provided KUSA let me register him, even tho he is living in Zim) He is also microchipped. His parents both have A2 hips and 0.0 elbows. Their eyes are also clear. (There is no such system in place in Zim anymore and will have to get his xrays rated in S.A when he turns 1)
So IF I were to breed him , (want to ensure I would do it right, otherwise no good contributing to the already 'shaky' breed). What colour bitch should I get? Obviously trying to ensure the best breeding possible. I would like to be able to breed all three colours. However we are not rich and I would have to start slowly. So if anyone could give me advice as to what best way to go about it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Hi All, the BIG day has finally arrived. Our baby is coming home with us today. In January we started looking for a puppy for my husband Swannie to train as a Search & Rescue dog, I got Vanessa Lodge-Lowe's number from one of the local vets, and she put our name down on the waiting list. On the 11th of April our girl was born. We saw her for the first time at 2 weeks of age, then again at 5 week and on Sunday Lesley de Klerk did a whole assesment on the entire litter and believe it or not, the most suitable one was the one we wanted (puppy face). We will keep you all updated on her progress and how our first night went. Vanessa you are an amazing person, and the best breeder in the world, thanks for looking after Noah for the last 7 weeks, we promise to take good care of her.

My labrador kry stuipe so 2 tot 3 keer per week, meestal in die oggende as hy opgewonde raak. Dit lyk assof die frekwensie meer raak maar die stuipe hou so darem net so 2 min dan is die hond weer fine.Obviosly breek dit my hart om hom so te sien. Wat kan ek doen om die hond te help , die hond eet gesond en oefen gereeld .

I am pleased to say that I managed to locate a breeder from your website who has some pups and I am counting the days before I can take ownership of my new baby. I am so excited.

during the past year,I am more and more concerned with some of the temperaments displayed in our labradors
agression between dogs of one family,and agression to others in the show ring
The culmination was at the PE shows
where I sadly witnessed,two fights betwen males in the open class
and another when a labrador broke loose outside of the ring and attacked another gundog breed
then I witnessed the terrible beating of the dog by the owner
I should have intervened,but was in total shock at the shole proceedings
My wonderful temperament boy Flyer
on the third day,approached the ring on his belly
afraid to enter
I hope I can restore his confidence
but after 38 years in the breed, I am saddenned by these events
the worrying thing is
these dogs will be bred from
and what of the progeny for the future owners
many will say it is management
but many labs are unruly,and not trained sufficiently
but not aggresive
I do not know the answers,but clearly,something needs to be addressed

I have 2x beige 1x male and 1x female puppies with BLUE eyes! is this normal as both mother and father has BROWN eyes.
