Subject: Glass thermometer still used at a clinic

I work at a youth clinic located in the middle of nowhere where the glass thermometer is still used for taking temperatures. A rectal temperature taken with a glass rectal thermometer may be directed to any patient that is perceived not to be able to maintain a glass oral thermometer in the mouth responisbly. Often identifying such a patient is both objective (up to age of five years old) and subjective (beyond the age of five years old). The parents/custodians are very agreeable to the finding that a rectal temperature would be in the best interest of the patient.
