I suppose that there are some boys in that age group whose parents continue using the glass thermometer for taking temperatures. It would seem that some boys who could not be trusted to keep a glass oral thermometer intact while placed in the mouth would be getting their temperatures taken rectally with a glass rectal thermometer.
