Bally games are notorious for having bad power supplies and needing ram clears. I would start with the power supply behind the hopper. One way to check if it has a bad power supply is to leave the game powered up for a day or two and see if it comes on. When we used to have machine moves do to carpet changes or whatever half the Bally 5500 6000 and GameMakers used to not come back up since we never would have that many power supplies we would just leave them and most would come back on after a day or two then hope the power didn’t go off. Of course this doesn’t always work and the machine may need a ram clear which requires a clear chip.

The code book says “80” tilt is ROM Checksum error code “88” says catastrophic error so your game probably needs a Ram clear. A ram clear on a bally 5500/6000 can be a little tricky but would be straight forward if you had the clear chips which are required to do this. I don’t know if Bally’s would sell you the clear chips or not a local Slot Shop would probably be your best shot at getting the clear chip you need.
Here are the chip numbers
S5500 ME0x0001-9
S6000 S6Sx000CLE04-03

You would need the S6000 chip although if you can only get the S5500 sometimes it will work. Remember that something out may be wrong such as power supply or bad MPU

I have a Bally S5500 Roaring 20’s machine. Will any other reels or reel harnesses work on this machine?
