Another poster below suggested 25&O; considering there are 60 year olds in this competition, why wouldn't that be the beginning of a good move in the right direction?
A 50 or 60 year old dancer would still have to dance with a 28 year old, but still that's far better than a 22 year old. And remember: each year we all age, but younger dancers keep coming, so the disparity gets worse every year.
I wonder if some of the older dancers won't get discouraged when, each year, they see younger and younger dancers who have been doing this since they were little girls, enter adult ceili. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them started to not bother anymore, because "adult ceili" starts to become a natural next step for returning open champ dancers. Do you know what I mean?
And wouldn't these younger, prior champ dancers feel that their win, for example in a U25 age group, mean more to them? It just seems like the obvious thing to do now, as more and more dancers are getting older and not everyone wants to leave nor get their TC.
By the numbers in the adult trad sets, you can see that adult dancers really do want a place to compete. The MARO made an extra bit of money too, which actually is a pretty good argument for extended age groups!
