My mum Eliza Conway was from Co.Wicklow, Dunlavin, and she told me when she was a young girl, she did Irish Dancing, and won Medals etc., for her dancing. this was a very long time ago, in the twenties. I never thought to ask her when she was alive, about her dancing. she learnt me to dance as a young girl, and to speak the.Irish language. but sadly all i can do now is count to 6.! Anyway what I want to ask is "Where or how could I find out the records of the dancing from the twenties, Did they keep records of the people who won cups and medals etc., I am doing the family tree, and should love to put all the info into my book. " I hope that someone will answer me.
I live in England. way down in the south west.

P.s. my mum left Eire. and came to England.. married a english man. but her maiden name was conway, and her married name Barrett. my Dad was C of E, but I am RC and my son is. she never lost her faith. I do hope you can help.

Don't think there are too many Irish dance historians here, but you can start here: http://www.mid-atlanticregion.com/ZZ2_HISTORY.htm There might be some names/leads to start you off there. (NT)Best of luck w/your family tree! Your kids will be glad, & so will their kids!07:41:16 03/20/12 Tue

Try the Irish Traditional Music Archive in Merrion Square in Dublin. (NT)Email address is online. They've lots of old dancing photos, footage, info, etc in their library.14:00:55 03/25/12 Sun
