I'm an adult dancer (started Irish in my late 20s), and I am offended at this discussion of "regular" adults and "real" adults. If these teams were following the rules (stay out of competition for 5+ years), then let them compete. If I competed in teams, I wouldn't want to be the "best" just because the best dancers didn't show up that day. If we want adult Irish dancing to be taken seriously, we shouldn't be having these discussions about how it was unfair for championship-caliber dancers to dance in the regional championships. From some of these posts, I feel like I would be unwelcome in adult competition because I don't have any kids, or because I'm only in my 30s. Maybe there should be a "masters class" for dance like there is for long-distance running (ages 40+). Until then, adult Irish dance should be open to ALL adults who meet the criteria of not competing at any other level for more than 5 years.
