I'm in the New England region (USA) and a few of the schools in my state alone have adult classes. At the O's usually there are 3 or 4 teams with 8-hands and about the same amount with 4-hands, though some schools have more than one 4-hand team. There are usually only 2 or 3 mixed 4-hands, and almost never mixed 8-hands. Ceili seems to be taken pretty seriously. Adult solo competitions here aren't leveled for some reason, so all adults, regardless of experience, compete together, and many people do it just for fun. No one seems to take it as seriously, and I've seen one person get first, two or so get second, and everyone else get third (though it totally depends on the judge, sometimes this isn't the case). I would like to be more competitive and compete against people in my level, so I am going to do the and-overs at feisanna that don't have an adult category, so I can still do adult ceili. Some schools focus more on competition and some focus more on shows with their adults.
