Subject: FREE TUTORIAL: Understanding Timing for Irish Dance Music. Want to improve your timing? Create steps with more impact? Know which type of tune is playing (What’s a slip jig? What’s a single jig? Why is Drunken Gauger/Blackthorn stick so strange?). No music knowledge necessary. Email me at mark@markarringtonmusic.com.

This tutorial starts with the basic descriptions of timing, and then matches timing to the tunes. There are some ideas about where people make mistakes identifying or following tunes, and ideas for better matching the steps to the music. There is a discussion on how to hear and anticipate phrases in dance tunes and a description of the Beat per Minute as it relates to dancers and musicians.
