I am sure that Molly is a very deserving young lady, and I sense that she is handling this difficult time in her life with lots of poise and grace, but I think its sad that her misfortune is the key to her success, and even more to suggest that other incredible young ladies couldn't be our next Miss America, simply becasue they haven't had such an issue in their lives. Should every little girl who wants to be Miss America hope she has some traumatic experience just so she has a story to tell. I certainly hope not.

Agreed, but stories get publicity and it is becoming more and more about viewers.

I think if she can gain a national title with the help of her tragedy, then she should look at her surgery as "it was not done in vain"

Not in vain anyway. Saved a lot of heartache down the road.

This may sound cold but ppl have this procedure quite often ... Its the smart choice if you test positive for the gene... And she got a boob job right after so she looks great... I don't really see the tragedy. Lots of girls have platforms with this strength at our state pageant

The tradegy is that at 19 she has no feeling in her chest and probably never will. She has major scars and She has had tissue expanders since June that are painful and don't move and she can't sleep well and takes pain medicine and also has high risk for ovarian cancer and was told to have hysterectomy after she has had her children. Really ? This is nothing like a boob job. And yes i put my name. Sorry if anyone is offended

You could not have said that ANY better. it disgusts me that you people think someone will and should be awarded a crown due to something tragic that happened in her life? I'm sorry but if that were the case CC Hillman should have been Miss MS if we're counting misfortunes and ailments. The kid almost died. Get over yourself people. Miss MS is SOOOOO MUCH more than poor pitiful me give me and crown because of my health concerns. She may be talented and poised but guess what, so is most everyone else on that stage come June/July. So cut the crap about her "deserving" to be Miss America or even Miss MS just because of her "story". There is so much more to it than that.

Its true.... We had girls who were bullied and lll who has a beautiful testimony, a girl who was brutally raped an told her story all over the news, we had a girl who recovered in rehab a fully recovered addict, and yes a girl who almost died... And the crazy part is the girl who won platform had another "healthy Mississippi " platform.... I wish it carried more weight but ms ms obviously doesn't but too much into picking great platforms ... So platforms and tragedy's don't get crowns

Excuse me but Molly would have just as great of a chance at winning even if she hadn't of had the procedure done before she began competing. She's the best we've done at Nationals out of all the teens we've sent(and the Misses in the last 10+ year). Want to know why? Because Molly has an incredible personality and spirit. Those that are close to her know that she had a cancer scare earlier this year so deciding to go ahead with the mastectomy was a brave and mature decision she made at just 19. I'm not sure if Molly will win Miss MS this year, but if she does it will be because of how sweet and talented she is. Now quit being a sore loser and talking about someone who is nothing but nice to everyone.

Calm yourself.... No one said anything negative about Molly... No one is being a "sore loser"... People were just saying they don't think its a tragedy and their are plenty of strong amazing girls with more powerful platforms at state...Molly's decision was hard yes but there are plenty of hard decisions made by our other wonderful contestants

I'm pretty sure the posters above said that Molly will win Miss MS BECAUSE of her story. If Molly does eventually win, it will be because she deserved it and not because of her masectomy. Plus we all know your sweet angel didn't win last week so you're just being ugly.

I agree. Platform should play a larger role in the MM and MAO if girls are to have one. I was very disappointed that CeCe Hillman did not win the QOL award because she not only had an important message to spread and was inspiring, but the girl put in the work for it too. She even has a jewelry line and plays a large role in a national organization. If she didn't win QOL, I at least thought Dailee Kimble who was raped or LLL who has a great story would.
