Subject: Scammers are at it again

We have received two reports of a scam in which the scammer claims to be from Atmos Energy. In both cases, the scammer told the victims Atmos Energy was unable to process payments and instructed them to go to a local pharmacy and wire them money. The victims were told their gas would be turned off if they did not comply. The callers were not from Atmos Energy and it is a fairly common scam.

If you receive a call claiming to be from a utility provider or any other company wanting you to make payment, do not assume it is legitimate. Tell the caller to provide you with a contact name and number, then call a number for the company from your own records and confirm the validity of the call. Do not use a phone number provided by the caller.

If you find out the call is not valid, do not try to call the scammer back. Do not do anything else and nothing else will happen.
