Subject: Synopsis of River Oaks Economic Development Corporation Meeting July 10, 2017
The meeting started on time. All members present with the exception of Councilman Holland.
First item on the agenda was to recommend to new members for council to approve. One is to replace Joann Gordon's seat since she is moving out of town. The other was a recommendation to have more citizen input on the board so Joann Butler is stepping down. The two that were recommended was Darren Houk and Buck Bybee. Houk owns Roofing Solutions in River Oaks and Buck owns River Oaks Cafe. Both will start serving at the next EDC meeting.
Next item was a presentation by the representative of the T. He came requesting six new bus stops in our city. One of the bus stops was actually in Fort Worth. The other was within a block of Fort Worth so it was recommended that those two stops not be our issue. Two other stops were real close to existing stops and were dropped also. The two new stops accepted by EDC: One was right in front of city hall and the other one would be across the street. I also requested once again that they consider moving the stop at Yale and 183 at least half a block east or west to get it out of the intersection sight line. Board member Dan Chisholm also recommended the consideration for moving it. The rep. went on the describe were the new shelter is going to be put up in front of city hall.RO Emergency management coordinator was concerned about it effecting storm water run off. The rep. assured him that it would not. The price of this shelter is 10,000. plus 200.00 for the bus signs. The T rep. brought some actual numbers of ridership that started in River Oaks. The only month is had numbers for was the month of June. His claim is 83 riders originated from the City of River Oaks in the month of June. It was also noted that should we drop out of the bus service we would have to pay The T for the sign removal.
Some budget numbers were discussed. Its estimated EDC will take in around 170,000 this year and they should wind up with 500.000 in the bank including their Tex Pool account.
Next was a presentation by Patricia Ward going over EDC strategies and items they could use to attract developers to our city. One concern she brought up is that several developers she talk to had already spoken with other members representing the city. She is concerned that everyone is not on the same page. She wanted the board, the council and herself to all be working from the same plan and out of the same toolbox. It was expressed to her that she had the okay to represent the city and thought they had made that clear to her at the last meeting. She didn't feel that was clear at the last EDC meeting and that it had more to do with increasing the amount of incentive dollars EDC could offer. It was made clear at this meeting she could and should represent the city in dealing with potential developers. She is going to put a brochure together to get all members and council on the same page.
Last item on the agenda was the resignation of JoAnn Gordon. She gave a heartfelt speech thanking all the members of the board she's served with. She thanked the council members that she served with also and she is very proud of how much better the city looks now than what it looked like when she moved here in 2001.
