LOVE every bit of the above post.

The library is overstaffed and underutilized and most certainly does not require all the hands it has. It's a sad fact, but technology has replaced it. It seems it's more of a hang out/social environment for the ol' gals running it. Sharing services with Westworth on this may be useful, or get with CISD and join librarys, your library card could get you into the school library during business hours only and boom done. Get with the school board, it's an educational endeavor but suggest moving the City library to the old Truce building (Merritt and Ohio Garden) and work together to further educate the citizens of the City who need a little more, and not in a derogatory manner but things like GED help for disabled learners, old war vets that still wanna graduate HS etc.

Hiring freezes happen, spread the responsibility of the staff you have and make some cuts, truth, it happens, EVERYWHERE! We cannot be and are not the City that can afford to help a friend and snag em a job anymore, 1965 was a while ago. Here's an even wilder idea, hire some PRN folks, not part time, as needed employees to cover for sick outs, training, overtime, holidays etc. PRN employees don't meet criteria for insurance or OT concerns and are generally cheaper for the City than paying OT without leaving critical City services short hands, i.e. PD, FD, Water on call etc.

I am absolutely all over the contract trash services idea. The folks we have are nice, but with the exception of the driver's generally they are temp agency employees and not here for a career! The City needs to focus on it's employees that are here for the long haul career environment and not stepping stones to bigger and better and or state requirements for employment based on pardon/parole board, welfare, unemployment, or state benefits requirements. I'm sure they are good people, but the long term benefit for the City is not there and the effort should be refocused elsewhere.
