I have barrowed this from the lions den site it was posted to the same topic posted above by Johnny, I have left the authors name off if they wish it added just let me know

link to lions den also a face book site is as follows for those who do not know it is there

lionsden.nextdoor.com I'd like to respond to the updated post regarding the city council meeting, specifically in response to the following paragraph. Thank you John for your post. However, the need for correction and clarification is warranted.

THE POSTED COMMENT:
The mayor then turned on social on media, blaming it for all the bad press the city has received.

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
The mayor is in no position to blame anyone or anything; it is his ultimate responsibility as the mayor to ensure all systems are in working order and taking the necessary action steps to resolve problems. If he believes we have received "bad press", it is only because of the bad situation that has befallen the residents of this city - the brown water - which is not the fault of the residents or the media.

THE POSTED COMMENT:
He stated if the people only knew the facts they wouldn't have posted what they did.

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
It is the responsibility of the mayor to communicate the facts to the residents of the city. The residents have asked for, and now demanding the facts for months [years for some] without the proper mode of communication to reach all residents properly with accurate and timely information. But there is one fact that the residents have not received and that is to the question: Why is the city failing to ensure clean water to its residents today?

THE POSTED COMMENT:
He said after talking to the lady who started all of this with the news media and presenting her all the facts, she changed her position on the issue.

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
Let me be very clear, "the lady" did not change her position.
The only reason "the lady" reached out to the news media was due to the hazardous health predicament that has been dumped on the residents. If the city had taken the proper action steps in the first place, years ago, and implemented an interim plan to ensure clean water today - until the new pipes are installed - then "the lady" would not find it necessary to contact the media for help. Most people do not have the financial resources, nor the legal connections, to resolve the matter as a resident. The only other viable resource is the media. The residents did not start this mess, but we now find ourselves in the thick of this mess to no fault of our own.

THE POSTED COMMENT:
He also blasted the community for not being in attendance for this discussion about the water situation in our city.

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
The reason the community is not "in attendance for the discussion" is because the residents have full time jobs and families to take care of after work. Additionally, it has clearly been proven time and time again that the council meetings have not been productive forums to resolve this on-going matter. The council meetings as a forum for resolution is not working, but has now become the definition of insanity --- trying the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Shift gears and take the high road to right a wrong.

THE POSTED COMMENT:
He stated that in the past you would have had to set up chairs out in the hallway for all the citizens who would have been here.

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
The mayor is living in the past. He is not in the present reality of the problem which is required to find a resolution today and for the future.

THE POSTED COMMENT:
Councilman Holland questioned if these people really care about our city why would they say such things??

IN RESPONSE TO THE POSTED COMMENT:
Caring about the city and expecting residents to be happy about living with brown water are mutually exclusive, not to mention ridiculous.

The reason the residents are so upset is because the residents do care about the city AND the residents care about their health. First and foremost, however, the residents care about their health and the health of their children. The residents are angry for good reason. The mayor is failing to take care of his city, his residents. We must have a plan today for clean water. We cannot wait 3-5 years or even 3-5 months for the new construction to begin the installation of the new pipes. It is not right for the residents to live with brown water AND be placed in the position to: spend additional funds to buy clean bottled water AND still pay their water bill. Residents will move. Businesses will not consider this city as a good investment. We need additional solutions that the city is not able to provide today - that much is clear. It's time for some "out of the box thinking" to ensure our facets stream clean water. Class action lawsuit against the city? Contacting Governor Abbott? Demanding the city to provide the residents with a monthly stipend to cover the additional expenses for the bottled water purchased by the residents? Lowering the monthly water bill by 50% until the matter is resolved? I do not know what the ultimate resolution looks like, but I do know it is not the status quo.

The residents cannot wait months or years for clean water. We live in a city in the United States of America, not a third-world country depending on the kindness and goodness of mission workers. Or are we?
