Synopsis of Town Hall Meeting, Tuesday, March 5, 2019

The Town Hall meeting started with the proposed Meandering Road project. Presentation given by Clint Hoover with the Fort Worth Transportation and Public Works Department. He started the presentation off stating this would be his last meeting representing this project since he is been given a promotion and will be handing off the project to Wilma Smith. Although he talked a lot for over an hour or so, he wasn't very well informed on what the citizens of this city have already stated in previous meetings that they didn't want round abouts. It took up way more time in the meeting that I'm going to discuss here. He kept mis-stating that there would be a round about at Meandering and 183. He also stated this project was funded, but the design concept was stuck at 59.9% due to lack of confirmation on right-of-way issues vs. purchasing of land needed to complete the project. One of the designs presented shows a center turn lane, one lane each side of the turn lane for traffic, a bike trail on each side of those two lanes. Another issue holding the project up is getting a variance to have the roadway 11 feet wide on each lane vs. the required 14 feet. I questioned why have two 10 ft back lanes if we are 6 ft short on the required width of the road. He side stepped the question stating River Oaks might not have two bike lanes. He was also questioned on how much easement land they were going to take on each side of the road. Another question he didn't have the answer for was who would pay for the side walks, which are also required on this project. The answer I know from previous meetings is that the sidewalks are on private property and would be PAID FOR BY THE PROPERTY OWNERS. How many of you still want sidewalks if you're going to have to pay for it out of your pocket? In closing, his last few comments were: if the project doesn't have bike trails, side walks, the funding would no longer be available. He also said their traffic studies suggested that going from four lanes to two lanes would have no affect on traffic congestion. Since so many citizens seemed unhappy and not wanting the round about part of this project, he wants in writing those who object to this plan to email him or Wilma Smith with your concerns. Clint.Hoover@fortworthtexas.gov or wilma.smith@fortworthtexas.gov

Next presentation was by Gordon Smith discussing our water lines, sewer lines and street repairs. Let's start this off with some good news: With any luck Roberts Cut Off will be open some time Friday. Water pipe replacement will start on Churchill, just in time for spring break. Phase 2 of our sewer line replacement is going out for re bids. No reason given, but the same company is still interested in finishing the project that did Phase 1.
