is it just me or were the titles back then much more prestigious than before The Donald took ownership?!
The titleholders got big prize packages with cars and cash and lots of tangible good as opposed to nowadays, where they get a little more than nothing. Being Miss Universe now is not much different from being Miss USA! The titles are different and Miss Universe travels internationally, but I don't really see that much of a difference.
I miss the old days when the pageants were glamorous and not supermodel competitions. Am I the only one that thinks so?

I am home on holiday and got to watch morning television. When I turned on Good Morning America and found Miss USA 2007 Rachel Smith hosting. She looked and did great. It's great to see a Former titleholder achieve success. Especially when it's my personal favorite.

If you rewatch Miss USA you will see that the first runner up and Olivia are standing in the same position during the crowning (interesting to note the same can be said of 95 and 97 Miss Universe Pageants). Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Organization wins $5 million in legal battle against contestant who called Miss USA pageant ‘rigged’

On the eve of the Miss Universe pageant, Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Organization announced it had won the legal fight against Sheena Monnin, the former Miss USA contestant who claimed the pageant was fixed.

A judge in a private abritration in New York awarded the Miss Universe Organization $5 million in damages, calling Monnin’s statements “defamatory” and said they were “harmful” to the organization’s reputation.

Back in June, Monnin, who won the Miss Pennsylvania pageant, quit the competition after she wrote a Facebook post in which she said the show was “rigged.” Monnin said she saw another competitor correctly recite the names of the Top 5 finalists in the Miss USA competition before they were announced. The post was picked up by many media outlets, and the “Today” show had her on for an interview (“Today” airs on NBC, which co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with Trump.)

“When the names were called out in the order that she said she saw them on the list, that’s just too coincidental to not be true,’’ Monnin told Ann Curry during the “Today” appearance.


Former Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin (Isaac Brekken - GETTY IMAGES) Trump denied the claims, and responded that the franchise’s voting process is Ernst & Young-cerfified. He also almost immediately announced his intention — also during an interview on the “Today” show — to bring legal action against Monnin, and later filed an arbitration action. Trump suggested Monnin was angry because she lost the pageant, and also offered that she resigned because the organization had decided to allow transgender contestants to compete for the crown for the first time — pageant officials released an e-mail in which Monnin had written, “I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it.”

Monnin said during the “Today” interview that she quit for a “myriad” of reasons, and added she was “prepared to continue to pursue the truth” about the pageant.

In a statement Tuesday, Trump said, “We cannot allow a disgruntled contestant to make false and reckless statements which are damaging to many people who have devoted their hearts and souls to the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageant systems.”

Monnin’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment.

The date on the arbitration award is Dec. 10 — but the news was announced shortly before the Miss Universe Pageant airs on NBC Wednesday night.

I have to say that I think that last nights production of Miss Universe was one of the best ones in years. I loved the fact that they had the stage decorated to show the holiday spirit. It was certainly better than the bare stages of years past. I was also glad to see they focused more on the delegates and showing them around in Las Vegas. I wish they would have announced photogenic and congeniality and best national costume on stage with all of the girls. I applaud the Miss Universe Organization for asking for a moment of silence to honor the victims of the shooting in Connecticut. Overall I give this years Miss Universe Pageant a B+. The intros were also a lot better this year too.

I loved Miss USA's gown & thought it was a nice change from the overly revealing gowns of the last couple of years.

As for the shorts/hot pants/gown options, well I just hated those for a pageant. Prom yes, pageant no.

I also thought that Miss Culpo was brilliant for wearing her hair up. By the time it got to the final five, I was ready to get up on stage & glue Venezuela's hair back out of her face.

Philippines was beautiful but the gown was a mistake. It was too revealing with her granny panties showing. Beautiful color though.

Overall I think Olivia Culpo was a great choice for Miss Universe. She's beautiful, educated & talented with a killer body. What more can you ask for?
