'In the mood for love' composer Galasso dies in Paris
(AFP) – 1 day ago
PARIS — US violinist and composer Michael Galasso, best known for his score for Hong Kong director Wong Kar-Wai's "In the mood for love," has died in Paris aged 60, his family said on Thursday.
Galasso, who had lived in Paris since 2002, died at home on Wednesday after suffering from Hepatitis C.
Born in Louisiana in 1949 to a violinist father and oboist mother, Galasso began playing the violin aged three and performing solo aged 11.
He composed the score for Iranian director Babak Payami's "Secret Ballot" and Turkish director Yesim Ustaoglu's "Waiting for the Clouds" but was best known for his music for "In the mood for love" in 2000.
Galasso also created several sound and music installations, including the first ever at the Guggenheim Museum in New York during a retrospective for Italian designer Giorgio Armani.
Galasso's funeral will be at Paris's Pere Lachaise cemetery on Friday.
