Yeah, that first time was with neighbor/friend that I rode to school with my freshman year - he was a senior. So I didn't want to wimp out in front of him when he elected to take the swats. I know I had probably done some things in younger grades that I didn't get caught at - I guess the threat of the paddle had done its job up to that point.

I had too many tardies in a short period of time. I didn't realize that this was something that I could get paddled for at the time - this was a new school for me this year and never had been tardy in my earlier grades. In earlier years however I had copied off of friends papers a few times and never got caught as well as other minor schoolboy stuff-cussing, talking in class, etc.

My senior year paddling was around the first part of April when the weather got nice and three other friends and I decided to skip together - took off to a nearby lake to enjoy the nice weather. We had no excuses the next day and had never really been in trouble at school otherwise and were considered to be among the good kids at school and thought we would see if we could get away with it since we were only a few weeks from graduation. The principal wasn't as leniant as we had hoped - had the option of detention but some of us had after school jobs so we all opted for swats. We were told that it was equal punishment for all - didn't matter if we were good students or not and each got five swats over jeans in front of each other, paddle with holes. It STUNG like a mother ------! Had wet eyes afterwards. Luckily, parents weren't ever notified.
