Subject: An Apology

Hey Guys,

Mom & dad got off this morning for their well deserved vacation. Mom deserves for her 50th & dad deserves R&R too & his first break really since his heart problems last April that really pulled us even tighter together as a family. Learned this week an added surprise that grandma & grandpa booked the cruise too to go with them--an added gift for mom.

To answer a new message I saw this morning, Jeanne & I are attending a Valentine dinner/dance this evening. It raises needed tuition scholarship funding & moral support for some young men from around here studying at the seminary to be priests. Got Jeanne a corsage & card for tonight and had flowers delivered to her office yesterday. We'll spend time together tomorrow too.

Now to the meat of the message...guys, one & all, I want to apologize. I'm not the sole guilty party with regards to Luke. There is blame enough to go around but this is twice now I've interfered with advice to Joel that has backfired & to him especially I apologize for stepping way over the line in involvement. Guess I took the concept 'big brother' seriously when it should have been left at online buddy months ago.

If I would have stayed out of the Thanksgiving incident on the farm, I could've saved a family rift between Joel, dad and grandpa. What grandpa did I thought intolerable & said so & encouraged Joel to talk with his dad. Now Joel's 18th is here next week & from what he told Dave in a recent message, the grandparents won't be a part. I take the blame for encouraging Joel to talk to his dad over the past month & not only for the McDonald's incident but as far back as the holiday prank & fight with Kyle in the dorm. I guess because Dave & I always had that open line to talk with both parents, especially our dad as guys, I was reacting with good intentions based on my experience. I would never have suggested anything to wedge the bond & friendship between you guys. Steve is probably right & he being older, married & experienced with kids already much better qualified to advise you than me. Steve, maybe because he had no dad, grew up better, more secure & matured faster making decisions himself without those dad talks. Since you dudes like words such as wimp, wuss, snitch...maybe I've been the nieve one trusting in my dad's opinions & some damn wonderful talks we had growing up & still have today. He has been a wealth of knowledge & good advice to me, Dave I think too, & was eager for Joel & truthfully, any of you dudes to tap your dads too. Man, did I screw up lives unintentionally & maybe saying 'sorry' is too little & too late. Now feel free to hang any or all those catch phrase tags on me.

I've read Steve, Kyle, Sean, Spencer, Zack & maybe other's comments this past week as well as Luke's 'gut punch' last message which really hit home hard. I've finally learned dudes to now back off & maybe back out & be at most that occasional online buddy to continue to admire your goals & achievements. Know you dudes have potentials & will succeed & with each other, your folks, coaches & maybe even those special young ladies, have all the resources for advice needed.

Dave wants to respond to a message from Joel he got a few days ago, so I'll sign off & turn over to him. Hey Joel, I would've said it later next week closer to the 19th but even early now, Happy Birthday dude, if I ever wanted a second little bro or if I ever have a son some day, a dude like you would be at the top of that wish list.
