Joel, what you & Kyle have done or the after game jock paddlings was buds horsing around & a game. What grandpa did was damn outright abuse & nothing funny in that. He might have thought it justified & have good intentions but he went not to the line but way over the line. I'd stay my distance from him & especially never be alone again with him. You're no little kid so you are capable to get out of or avoid such situations. Like I told Kyle who said he was mad enough to get violent with your grandpa, that two wrongs don't make a right, and violence toward grandpa by either you or Kyle is just as wrong. Just say no & mean it & never think you have to drop your drawers & take a whipping for something you know you are 100% innocent. You owe yourself respect as much as you owed grandpa respect. If I were you, he would have lost my respect forever that afternoon in the barn.

Talking might be a good first line of defense but walking is the best & ultimate choice. God gave you two good legs that got you touchdowns in the end zone last season. Use them legs for your own self-respect too. It's crap to say "get my butt tanned to satisfy him".

The whole episode Joel is weird. If he thought your ass needed a whipping, why did he tell you to strip off your t-shirt this time too. Open your eyes dude, he stripped you more than butt naked for 'satisfaction' & dude that rings as abuse in my book & should be in yours.

Dave says he mentioned to you that maybe grandpa had a history of abusing your dad too. That's a thought dude to consider. Maybe dad won't whip your ass, recalling whippings he endured as a boy. I know it would be hard & you are probably still a bit confused in thinking, but this
is a matter that you need to sit down right now & tall over with your mom/dad. Grandpa needs help & maybe at 17 you don't want to admit you need help & protection so it never happens again. Sounds like you got good parents & that is what good parents do, is love, care & protect.
