Glad to hear that lil bro. It has been a hectic week for me. I had agreed to give some seminars on finance, along with others, at a community center. Before insurance, I had worked in a bank trust group so had that previous experience & now insurance to help folks make decisions in these tough economic times. Well enough for the moment on me. Truth is, I've had you on my mind too. Good to hear you are recovering physically as well as emotionally from the ordeal. You're a tough little dude.

>see if my dad was ever abused as a kid in
>spankings/whippings/paddlings from grandpa.

You think that a wise move Joel. First, there is a risk of grandpa & if he hears those kind of questions coming from you he might flip out. Grandma would not likely want to admit abuse even if she suspected regarding your dad and she might turn the other way & overlook what grandpa did with you last week if that comes up. That's a big risk dude & though I just said you were a tough guy, you need adult backup from parents or others more experienced. Not a put down Joel, but you're treading dangerous turf.

> When I get back I'll know if I need to include that
>information in my speech I'm giving my dad before I
>make him paddle me before I tell on grandpa to get
>help for him.

So what's this speech stuff? Have you done something you have not messaged or I apparently missed that deserve dad paddling your ass? You think, if he never saw it justified before, he'll just say 'Joel drop your drawers & I'll paddle you' for the asking? As far as the challenge, I'll not back out on my part but it's not worth it Joel if it puts you at risk. Grandpa more than tanned your ass & Rick and I have talked & agree to call that your victory & I'll take my swats. No shame Joel. I repeat, you're a tough lil dude.

> Speaking of paddle, Kyle has made a homemade one,
>used measurements you told about the paddle your dad
>made used on use, has holes drilled in it and my name
>on the handle for my dad to use on my bare butt!

So you're going to carry in your own personalized paddled in your hand? That's awesome. I never recall dad sending Rick or I to get the paddle so he could use it on us. If it happens, will that paddle hang in your room with other achievement trophies?

> David, you motivated me to finally get the courage up
>to ask for the paddling from my dad, sounds like you
>getting your courage up to get yours after you took
>the candy. It's going to happen, and because you was a
>part of it!

Believe me lil bro, I don't recall any courage back then at age 9. What I recall is my dad coming into the room, paddle in hand giving me a talk on stealing & something like teaching me a lesson to never steal again. He put me over his leg, pulled down the seat of my jeans & then my briefs and gave my bare bottom a walloping to remember. There was nothing courageous in my crying & squirming that evening.

> Dude, you did not cause me to get the razor strap
>whipping in the barn, cause me to motivate myself to
>take it, like experience of trading swats with
>buddies, etc.,it was grandpa's fault and he's going to
>get help after I tell on him.

Why not take that speech & paddle to dad now & get it over if it's going to happen & not risk a weekend at the farm?

> Your sounding like me, dude

That's not a bad role model is it?

> When that happens I know I will be thinking of you
>and your first paddling at age 9. Sorry dude, that it
>took me seven more years before I got mine.

Dude, if that happens, all that you'll be thinking of is your warm & red backside unless dad goes easy. If I come to mind at all, it will be anticipating what Rick & the old paddle is going to do to my ass. Hope he doesn't reduce you to a squirming & bawling kid like me at 9 getting my first!

> Dude, don't worry about my safety

Dude, your safety is #1. You better not come back with more war stories from the barn or I'll chew your ass to nothing left for dad to paddle & you better keep an eye on Kyle too so he don't react with grandpa in a way to put his butt on the line either in the barn or with the law. Kyle sounded pretty hot over the Thanksgiving incident.

> Take care.

You too lil bro
