Although William Daniels, TCM Guest Programmer for April, will always be remembered for his role as Dustin Hoffman's father in The Graduate (1967), he has a long and distinguished list of other stage, movie and television credits. Brooklyn-born Daniels and his wife, Bonnie Bartlett, became the first married couple to win Emmy® awards for the same TV series, St. Elsewhere, in which they memorably costarred. More recently, he had recurring roles in the series Grey's Anatomy and Girl Meets World and also wrote his memoir, There I Go Again (2017).

Two of Daniels' programming picks are from his own filmography with the actor recreating roles he had played onstage. In the musical 1776 (1972), Daniels plays John Adams, a role he found challenging to recreate in the movie because singing is necessarily stylized and "film is very realistic." In A Thousand Clowns (1965), Daniels is a social worker who threatens to take away the son of hero Jason Robards. Daniels' final choice is Dodsworth (1936), starring Walter Huston, whose acting was "timeless" and filled with "that marvelous energy that removed from him the style of acting that everybody else was doing at the time."
