Murfreesboro - Billy L. Turner. You probably have never seen him, but you have heard his voice. You may have never spoken to him, but you saw his work on television through the years.

Billy L.Turner, age 85, passed away January 9, 2018 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a native of Carbondale, Illinois, but spent most of his adult life in Nashville, Tennessee. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Lenard Turner and Lena Turner; wife, Barbara Turner; brother, Harold Turner; and sister, Julia Arnold Houghland. He is survived by his son, William Allen Turner of Hendersonville, TN; daughter, Lisa Marie (Turner) Cejka of Murfreesboro, TN; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Bill Turner served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a pioneer of country music television, which was just beginning when he moved to Nashville in 1959.

Bill Turner was a mentor to countless people involved in the country music and television business. He did voiceover work for many commercials, television shows, and videos, but he is best known as a television producer and director. He was a director of Dolly Parton's variety show and the Porter Wagoner Show in the 1960s and 1970s, and he was the producer of Nashville Now, to name a few. He also produced the first Farm Aid special and numerous national television specials benefitting the Wounded Warriors Project. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter. He will be missed by all, but especially by his family.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dad's honor at St. Jude Research Hospital. The web site is: https://www.stjude.org/give.html.

Arrangements are under the direction of Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home and Cremation, 820 South Church St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130. 615-893-2422. Please leave online condolences at www.jenningsandayers.com.
