Dr. Earl Lynn Nelson passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children on August 23, 2018. He was 76 years old. Earl Lynn is survived by his wife, Ann Hash Robinette Nelson; children, Samantha Lynn Nelson, Sean Coleman Nelson and Shannon Nelson Trahan; his son-in-law, Aaron Justin Trahan; grandchildren, Sofia Elizabeth and Alexander Thomas; cousins, nephew and nieces too numerous to mention with the exception of his great-nephew and ice cream buddy, Cameron James Blankenship, and others he loved as his own. Earl Lynn will be joining his parents, Charline Coleman Nelson and William Earl Nelson, along with family and friends excited to welcome him to heaven. Earl Lynn Nelson was born on March 8, 1942, in Pikeville, Kentucky. He was a graduate of Pikeville High School, the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky Medical School. He served his country in Vietnam, started his family in New Orleans and was proud to call it home. He taught medical students at Tulane University about the profession he loved so dearly, cared for the sick and "fixed" eyes like no other. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and family fiercely. He treated other children that were in need of unconditional love as if his own, welcomed strangers as if he had known them for all of his life and made all those he encountered feel special. Who, other than Earl Lynn, can say they started a successful acting career in their 70s with Passenger Pigeon, Pilgrim Song and the award-winning Sony Picture Classics "Land Ho"? His zest for life was apparent by everyone who crossed his path on and off the screen. He would tell you now if he could that he never really acted; he was a character and just played himself - the best character ever created. We are so glad that we are able to share him with the world. A memorial service will be held by the Human Gift Registry of Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine in Huntington, W.Va., in May 2019. The family also plans a gathering to celebrate his life in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. Earl Lynn Nelson, "Earl, Earl Lynn, Easy, Doc, Daddy, Daddy Pa," loved bigger than any other and will be missed like crazy!
