Margaret Campbell Lake

Although she would never have willingly allowed us to tell you her age . . . she was 73 the day her body failed her. Margaret was born in a small Kansas town with a population of less than 800, and which was populated by even fewer expectations for her life. She married at age 18 and became a mother at age 19. Despite being temporarily derailed from her straight-A, high school trajectory, she possessed the grit to set herself back on track after successfully shepherding 2 children into their teenage years. She ultimately graduated from college at the age of 35. Then, at the age of 45 and following a bitter divorce, she packed-up everything she owned into a beat-up Honda Accord and trekked cross-country to attend Nova Law School in Florida. Characteristically, upon graduating from law school, she launched not only a legal career, but an aspiring acting career, as well. As a card carrying member of the Screen Actors Guild, she supplemented her income through her passion for acting. The arrival of grandchildren brought a new season to her life along with new passions. Margaret's retirement years were consumed by her family, her church activities, her knitting and her writing. Her faith in Christ was the foundation upon which she built and lived her life. She was uncommonly stubborn, fiercely loyal, and uniquely eccentric in her thoughts, words and deeds. She loved to her maximum capacity, and was loved by her family to their maximum capacities in return. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Vickie McMurray and her husband Tim McMurray; her son Chris Lake and his wife Melanie Lake; and her grandchildren Marley Morris, Maya Morris, Sawyer Lake, Claire Lake and Lauren Lake. A service in celebration of her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church, 9027 Midway, Dallas, Texas 75209. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to her favorite charity, her church's homeless ministry in which she tirelessly worked: Cochran Kitchen - 9027 Midway, Dallas, Texas 75209.
