Italian immigrant to the U.S., Candido Jacuzzi invented the Jacuzzi whirlpool bath
for his 15-month-old son, Kenny Jacuzzi, who was born with rheumatoid arthritis. ...

Candido Enzo Jacuzzi
(24 February 1903 7 October 1986)

Born in Casarsa della Delizia, Pordenone, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, into a poor farming region of northeastern Italy and was the youngest of seven brothers who, with six sisters, emigrated to the United States, at the turn of the century. The Candido family emigrated to Berkeley, California. In the early 1900s the seven Jacuzzi brothers worked together and invented the first enclosed cabin monoplane. This airplane carried mail and ferried passengers from the San Francisco Bay Area to Yosemite National Park. In 1956 they invented a portable hydrotherapy pump, the J-300, which was sold to hospitals and schools. Necessity being the mother of invention, the J-300 was created to relieve infant Kenny's (family member) rheumatoid arthritis.

Candido invented the first self-contained Jacuzzi tub and filed the first patent for it. The patent for the first portable Jacuzzi was filed in 1963, Patent US 3159849 and also for the first self-contained Jacuzzi Whirlpool filed in 1964 and marketed in 1968 as the first Hydrotherapy Tub states Candido Jacuzzi as the inventor. However, after Jacuzzi was bought out in the late 1970s by Kiddie, they hired Roy Jacuzzi, who quickly began to falsify reports that he invented the Jacuzzi. During this time, the Jacuzzi company website's history was modified, changed and Roy Jacuzzi started to be viewed as the inventor. After 30 years, and with a new President in charge, the original patent US 3297025 was certified to Jacuzzi Corporation in Chino, CA.

Candido Jacuzzi died at age 83, on Tuesday, October 7, 1986, at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. He had been paralyzed since he suffered a stroke in 1975,
and was interred at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, near his home of Lafayette, CA., in the cemetery's Mausoleum, Saint matthew section, ...

Although this immigrant family name has become a brand name, the Jacuzzis were prolific innovators in several industries; and their descendents operate wineries, olive groves, restaurants and even a successor company in the field of hydrotherapy. In 2007, descendant Remo Jacuzzi has spent 15 years interviewing family members, friends and employees of the Jacuzzi Brothers in order to compile this definitive history, culminating in a hardcover book chronicling his family. ...
