Beverly McClellan, a South Fork High School graduate who, in 2011, became a finalist on the first season of "The Voice," died Thursday, according to her close friend and music partner, Robyn Fear. She was 49.

McClellan was diagnosed March 30 with stage 3c endometrial cancer. The cancer metastasized and spread to her bladder, colon and intestines, according to a GoFundMe page set up for the singer/songwriter.

McClellan's raw, soulful sound made her a fan favorite on "The Voice." During the blind auditions, where performers sing to four coaches whose backs are turned, McClellan belted out Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart." Coaches Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera turned their chairs for McClellan, who picked Aguilera to be her coach.

Throughout the competition, McClellan sang "Baba O'Reilly," "I'm The Only One" and "The Thrill Is Gone." She also sang "Beautiful," a duet with Aguilera.

Born in Kingsport, Tennessee, McClellan started singing at 24 and had been performing at clubs in and bars around Fort Lauderdale for 20 years. She released six albums, all on an independent music label. She also won the New York National Music Festival in 2004 as Best Overall Performer. There were 500 contestants.

In 2012, she performed at Pride of the Treasure Coast's PrideFest, just a few months after her appearance on "The Voice."

Cory Pfister, treasurer of Pride of the Treasure Coast Inc., said McClellan's appearance drew a record crowd to the event.

"Although she was an active artist in South Florida, she treated her performance at PrideFest as a homecoming of sorts, with her parents standing side stage watching and cheering her on.

"Beverly was kind, gracious and extremely talented," Pfister said. "She will be missed but remembered fondly by many in our community."
