David Johnson Jr. was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to Alice and David Johnson Sr. He went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 25 at the age of 84.

David joined the Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War and was stationed in Guam and Alaska. He served for four years, and his last assignment was at Andrews Air Force Base in Lancaster, California where he was honorably discharged. He liked the weather in California so much that he decided to settle here.

He soon met his first wife, Wilma, and together they had two sons, David Wayne and Danny.
Years after David and Wilma divorced, he married Cher, and they had three children: Ebony Denise Holland, David Johnson III (Davey), and Ryan Robert Johnson.
David was preceded in death by his son Davey who died on October 30, 2010, at the age of 25.

David's musical career began in 1957 at the age of 20 when he became a member of the Du-Tones. Later the group called themselves The Cubans, then The Upfronts. Finally in 1961 they became Little Caesar and the Romans and recorded "Those Oldies But Goodies Remind Me of You" which spent over three months on the Rolling Stones national top ten list. This song was followed by two more hits, "Hully Gully Again" and "Memories of Those Oldies But Goodies." At the height of their career, they appeared on American Bandstand with Dick Clark. In later years they were regular performers at Art Laboe's Oldies But Goodies Club in Hollywood.

David is survived by six grandchildren: Dannesha, Tyrice Sr., Nicholas Sr., Carlos, Brian, and Jayli and twelve great grandchildren: Quenton Jr., Kenniah, Taliyah, Zaria, Tyrice Jr., Dominique, Walter, Elijah, Tyreek, Marquise, Tiara, and Nicholas Jr.
He is also survived by daughter-in-laws Johnique Johnson and Sherry Johnson and son-in-law Aaron Holland.

David was a natural singer and entertainer, talented, handsome, and charismatic. Music was his passion. He always said that it was in his heart, blood, and soul. We know that he is singing in God's choir in Heaven now. He will forever be loved and missed by his family and friends.
