August 19, 1932 - October 24, 2018 Philip Edgar Carey, age 86, an amazing soul and humanitarian, passed away on October 24, 2018 in Santa Monica, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hollywood on August 19, 1932, beloved son of Camille L'Ecuyer-Carey and Philip Carey, he was known affectionately as "Eddy." Eddy graduated from Fairfax High, received his Bachelor's Degree from Stanford, and his Master's degree in Social Work from USC. In 1955 he married Elaine Albertson, mother of beloved daughter Michelle. In 1962, Eddy married Janet Rowe, mother of beloved sons Bart and Sam. Eddy started his acting career in LA in the 1950s, with roles in westerns, soap operas, and the cult film classic, Rebel Rousers with Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern. After a move to Reno and Incline Village, Nevada in the 1970's, he worked as a psychologist in private practice, and started one of the first prison drug treatment programs at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City. In the 90's, he combined his gifts as an actor and educator into a one-man show called Clarence Darrow, performing to acclaim for many audiences, including several Bar Associations. Eddy was a fixture in the professional, theatre, and social scene in Reno in the 80's and 90's, before returning to LA where he fell in love with his soulmate Jane Forelle, whose energy, passion, and love sustained him until his last day. No description of Eddy's amazing life and gifts would be complete without mentioning that his favorite place was Lake Tahoe, which gave him peace, energy, and meaning for 83 years. His love of Tahoe has passed down generations, and we will think of him every time we see the Lake. More than anything else, Eddy loved his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his sister, Patricia Carey-Riley, and his beloved nephew Robert "Bobby" Riley, whom Eddy cared for like a father throughout his life. Eddy is survived by his devoted and loving partner, Jane Forelle, his three children, Michelle Frandsen, Bart Carey, and Sam Carey, and his four grandchildren, Danielle Wood, Erik Wood, Alexa Carey, and Nicole Carey, all of whom miss him dearly. He was so proud of his family, and we were certainly so proud of him. Philip "Eddy" was caring, compassionate, and loving, and never hesitated to give his help and support. As he died, his parting words were..."LOVE EACH OTHER." Maybe nothing could be more simple or more meaningful, or more exemplary of a life lived with the right priorities. Eddy, you will always be in our memories, our hearts, and our actions. Thank you for all you leave us to move forward, as difficult as that is without you.
