Evelyn "Brandy" Foster, a singer and Hollywood publicist who managed the career of her daughter, two-time Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster, died Monday at her Los Angeles home from complications related to dementia, her family announced. She was 90.

She also guided the career of her son, Buddy Foster, who is perhaps best known for portraying Ken Berry's boy on the 1968-71 CBS series Mayberry RFD.

In addition to Jodie and Buddy, she is survived by daughters Lucinda and Constance.

"Evelyn was without a doubt the strongest person her family has ever met, a champion, a fighter, full of fire and love," her family said in a statement. "No one could beat her style, all five feet tall with naturally 'corkscrew' hair. Her family will remember those dimple smiles and big hugs and well-placed four-letter words. No one messed with Nana, an original like no other. May she live in all of us forever."

Raised in Rockford, Illinois, Evelyn Almond was a big band singer who in the 1940s came to California, where she met Air Force Lt. Col. Lucius Foster at a fencing match. They wed and had four children.

As Lucius went on to become a real estate developer in L.A., Evelyn worked as a publicist for Arthur Jacobs, whose clients included Grace Kelly, Gregory Peck, James Stewart and Marilyn Monroe.

In her 30s, divorced and a single mother of four, Evelyn managed the career of Buddy, who was 10 when he first appeared as Mike Jones, the son of Berry's character, on The Andy Griffith Show. (Mayberry RFD was a spinoff of that classic sitcom.)

At 3, Jodie, her youngest daughter, landed her first commercial, a 1960s Coppertone ad. Evelyn managed her career through her second best actress Oscar win, for The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests "you look up at the sky, open your arms and say her name. She would get a kick out of that."
