In reply to: It was cancelled after 1 episode! 's message, "Conway was part of one of the most infamous network TV programming catastrophes ever: "Turn-On", a counter-cultural sketch comedy show on ABC was derided as a ripoff of NBC's Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In." on Tuesday, May 14, 05:06:20pm

What caused it to get cancelled so early was the fact that much of the material in the first show was overly offensive to ABC audiences then, and the affiliates got angry besides. Some cut the show off and didn't return network transmission till it was over for the evening.ABC wanted something that would put it in the top ten, but deciding that this was too much, gave that time slot to the affiliates for the next few weeks then quickly put together a King Family revival for the rest of the season. "Turn-On"s competition that one night, BTW, was "The Virginian" on NBC and "The Good Guys" on CBS. The fact that I had to wait till Saturday afternoon to watch "The Good Guys" where I lived was what enabled me to watch "Turn-On" that night.
