Legendary Manager Elliot Roberts Reported To Have Died

(CelebrityAccess) — On Friday, legendary manager Harvey Goldsmith announced on Facebook that Elliot Roberts, the music manager and label exec who played a key role in the careers of artists like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell, has died.

CelebrityAccess has been unable to independently confirm Roberts’ passing. When contacted, a spokesperson for Robert’s Lookout Management declined to comment.

Roberts, who was 76, helped to shepherd the careers of numerous singer-songwriters in the late 1960s and 1970s, including TomPetty, Tracy Chapman, Buffalo Springfield Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, and the Talking Heads, among others.

After graduating from high school and dropping out of college, Roberts tried his hand briefly at acting before he secured a position at the William Morris Agency, where he met David Geffen, who was also a new agent at the time.

He went on to form Lookout Management with Geffen and founded Geffen’s Asylum Records in 1970, which merged with Elektra Records in 1972.

Roberts also served as a senior vice president for his longtime Neil Young’s ill-fated Pono digital music player.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
