Baseball great Jimmie Foxx, seen here with second wife Dorothy "Dottie" Foxx. ...

...Sadly, in May 1966, Foxx suffered a terrible personal blow when his beloved wife, Dorothy, died of asphyxia (choking). Throughout the good years and bad, the two had a strong and devoted marriage, and after her passing, depression seemed to get the better of Foxx. Ironically, in July 1967, Jimmie Foxx became ill while eating dinner with his brother and was taken to a hospital, where resuscitative efforts failed. An autopsy showed that Foxx had choked on a piece of food.
