William McNeil Linton
1929 - 2019

William (Bill) McNeil Linton, from New York City, passed away of natural causes on May 31, 2019, in Lenox Hill Hospital. He was 89 years of age. He was born on December 16, 1929 in Edinburgh, Scotland to parents Elizabeth Cunningham-Linton and William Linton, Sr. Bill was the youngest of eight siblings. He immigrated to the U.S. with his parents at the age of eight. As a gifted young actor and singer, he performed on the Major Bowes Amateur Hour and went on to study theatre and drama at Pasadena State College in California. In the interim, he served in the United States Armed Forces and was a proud Veteran of the Korean War. He performed in five Broadway Shows one of which was WILDCAT opposite Lucille Ball. He traveled the globe in National Companies to include SUGAR BABIES with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller. With performances Off-Broadway, in Summer Stock and Regional Theatres, and numerous films, Bill was considered one of the most versatile actors of his generation. His ability to interpret roles in eight languages was known throughout the industry. He was proficient in athletics and was a skilled fencer, equestrian rider, ice skater, and snow skier. He received numerous rewards for his outstanding accomplishments. Bill is survived by his niece Darlene Schadewald and her husband Al, his grand-niece Susie Higel and husband Steve, grand-nephew Tommy McLean and wife Teri, great-grandniece Shelby Higel, and great-grandnephew Mikel. He leaves behind his love of forty years, Martha Danielle Lanzillotti. There will be a visitation on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home, 4307 Queens Blvd, Sunnyside, NY from 2:00 - 5:00 and from 7:00 9:00. Funeral will be at Calverton National Cemetery on Tuesday morning at 10:00.
