R.I.P. "Precious Precious" singer Jackie Moore

(November 8, 2019) We are sad to inform SoulTrackers of the death of Jackie Moore, the talented singer who shot into the R&B stratosphere with the 1970 hit “Precious, Precious.” She was 73.

The Jacksonville, Florida born Moore had the kind of voice that was both instantly recognizable and piercing in the emotions it expressed. She grew up idolizing stars like Aretha Franklin and Gladys Knight, and her desire to sing led her to move to Philadelphia while still a teenager, where she immediately began to turn heads.

She was signed to the local Shout record label and she recorded a number of regionally popular songs. Her reputation grew and, ultimately, she was signed by Atlantic Records, where she hit the ground running with the smash “Precious Precious.” She followed it with the top 20 “Sometimes It’s Got To Rain,” but she was unable to maintain consistent sales success.

The Disco Era emerged in the late 70s and Moore showed her versatility with a comeback dance hit, 1979's “This Time Baby.” She continued recording into the 80s, but by the end of that decade she retired to raise her family.

While we lost track of the talented songstress over the years, her expressive, powerful voice remains with us in a basketful of hits and album tracks that we’ll cherish. Rest in peace, Ms. Moore.
