The former GDR pop star Peter Wieland is dead. Wieland had died on the night of Monday in Berlin at the age of 89, the show express artist Könnern said, who represented the artist. The "Bild" newspaper had previously reported on it.

Singer Dagmar Frederic's former husband was born Ralf Sauer in Stralsund. After studying singing at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin, he went to the theater for three years. Then Wieland was drawn to the musical genre and the cheerful muse. For decades he performed in the Friedrichstadt-Palast in Berlin as a singer and conferencer. He was first seen in the musical revue "Das goldene Prag".

GDR award from Honecker
Wieland was one of the big names in GDR television shows such as "Kessel Buntes" and "Da Musike drin", where he also appeared with Frederic, who he discovered in 1966 during singing lessons and married the singer in 1977. Both were a duo in 1981 awarded the GDR National Prize by Erich Honecker The couple separated in 1983 after six years of marriage.

Wieland also appeared on television after the reunification - among other things in the daily soap "Gute Zeiten - Schlechte Zeiten". He also gave "Lämpel Teacher" in the "Max and Moritz" children's musical at the Braunschweig State Theater and the Obolski Circus Director in the "Fireworks" musical at Annaberg Theater.
