Dies at 89

William Kerr Young

YOUNG, William Kerr, age 89, passed away on Friday, May 1 in South Weymouth, MA. Bill was born in New Kensington, PA on 2/17/31. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA. He graduated from Carnegie Tech with a BFA and Purdue University with a Master's. He served as a Private 1st class in the US Army from Aug. 22, 1955 to Aug. 2, 1957.

He was an actor with an extensive resume of stage, television and film work - all genres and media. They included roles off-Broadway in The Balcony, Under Milkwood and Six Characters in Search of an Author, at the American Repertory Theater in I, and What the Butler Saw, Golf, and in Steven Spielberg's Amistad and the movie, The Boondock Saints with William Dafoe. He was Professor of Speech and Drama at Boston University from 1975 to 2005. He was awarded the 1998 Distinguished Faculty Award.

He was a kind and generous son, brother and uncle with a great sense of humor and fun.

He is survived by his two sisters, Geraldine Campbell and Sarah Young, sister-in-law Diane Young, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Marian Young, and his brother, John Young, and sister and brother-in-law, Santo and Anne Pontiere, and his nephew, Barry Campbell.

He will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. Graveside Services will be held at a later date. For online condolences, please visit: www.watermanboston.com.
