Subject: I watched both "The Big Valley" & "Bonanza" as a kid, and then some as an adult. My take on them changed quite a bit.

In reply to: I've never watched the show but it was full of character actors, it seems. 's message, "Antony Carbone, 95 today, appeared in "The Big Valley."" on Monday, June 15, 06:24:32pm

As a kid, I'm old enough (now) that we didn't have cable or VCR's, etc.; just a few channels. I was happy to have a TV western to watch. Now that I can afford to be choosy, I can say that they were both soap operas; in the extreme.

Don't misunderstand--there were plenty of good episodes, and I generally liked the characters. But how many times could they each get married - or nearly get married, and the poor woman dies? Ya know why you can't tell which show I'm talking about? ...Doesn't matter. Interchangeable. And how many effin' times can Victoria or Audra (a pathetic character) get kidnapped?

It's just my take...and I'm a big (TV) western fan. With DVD's + other sources--I found much better ones to watch over the yrs.
