In reply to: Age 78 ..... reported on Wikipedia, his Facebook page and Noise11 's message, "Mac Davis..... dead?" on Tuesday, September 29, 08:48:22pm

Mac Davis, who had a #1 single in 1972 plus wrote or co-wrote at least four songs for Elvis Presley, died Tuesday. He was 78. Noise 11 confirmed the passing as did Travis Tritt and B.J. Thomas on Twitter plus Elvis Radio.

Word of his passing came a day after it was reported he was “critically Ill” following heart surgery.

With Tuesday’s passing of Helen Reddy, who had a #1 hit in late ’72 with “I Am Woman,” we sadly have had some unique coincidences. We had two solo singers born the same calendar year who had a #1 single the same calendar year passing away the same day. Mac Davis was also an actor. He portrayed Seth Maxwell in the 1979 comedy/football movie, “North Dallas Forty”.

Mac Davis had this #1 hit in the fall of 1972…

Meanwhile, this was Mac Davis’ first pop chart hit….It reached #53 in the late spring-early summer of 1970…

Mac Davis also wrote or co-wrote at least four songs for Elvis Presley. Two in particular come to mind….

This song…

And this song…

For more on this passing….
