The walk up those stairs was a very long walk, especially after hearing my father tell the officer his plans. My friend was not in trouble. He hadn't really done anything wrong. He hadn't dared me to steal the comic book. Rather, I had said to him, "Watch this!" So it was entirely my idea and, as I said, I was just showing off and I got caught and got my just deserts when my father wore my bare butt out with the belt. Still, that licking seemed to go on forever with me over my father's knees kicking and bawling and promising never to steal again while the belt was cracking across my butt cheeks.
The lickings my friend and I got from the policeman were a result of the two of us throwing mud balls at cars. Some of our victims called the police and we got caught, dragged down the hill we were hiding on, and confronted by four of our victims, two older ladies and a young couple. There were two policemen and while one of them held my friend, the other unbuckled his wide leather belt, dragged me to a fallen tree by the side of the road, sat down and put me over his knee. In front of all those people, he pulled my pants down and tanned my bare butt until I thought I would lose my mind. When he was done with me, he grabbed my friend and gave him the same treatment. The licking was not unlike the lickings my father gave me, which is to say, it hurt like crazy, but it was far more embarrassing because it was in front of all those people. It was the most embarrassing spanking I ever got. We certainly deserved the lickings the policeman gave us, but you can imagine how you would feel being twelve years old and getting your bare butt tanned with a belt in front of two older ladies and a young couple. If I could have crawled under a rock, I would have.
