I often got spanked at home when I had school work or grade related problems even though that didn't get me paddled at school. In 5th grade I goofed off a lot and had mediocre parent teacher meetings. My dad whooped me and let my teacher know. For the rest of the year she knew that she could get me spanked at home. My mom cared more for the other behavior at school which got me paddled more often at school. My dad thought "boys will be boys" whereas my mom didn't quite have the same idea for *her* son. So I would more often go over her lap for a round with her hairbrush or a ping pong like paddle. In high school they didn't always notify parents when a student was paddled. But as I got older and definitely in high school I was almost never paddled by my dad, although he was OK with the school to do it. Mrs Johnson was kind about that though. I was generally well behaved and cooperative at school. Part of the middle school and HS handbook distributed at the beginning of each year was a tear-out consent for parents to sign & return if they consented to a paddling. Mine signed. It was freshman year of HS that I earned my first & only school paddling. It was report after school & to bend over the desk. Mr D gave me a whuppin on the seat of my jeans I had coming. The extreme dread made time feel like it had stopped. It was usually over with pretty quickly. For most offenses it was typically 3 swats. But there could be arbitrarily extra ones added.
