Some female teachers stop paddling boys after freshman year and would start writing out a detention slip for us to do detention that afternoon. If we took the detention and missed practice, then some of our coaches paddled us for missing practice or we had to sit out the next game. It was easier to ask the teacher to just send us to the vice principal's office where getting paddled was why you were there. One way or the other we were likely to get paddled so why spend an afternoon in detention and still get paddled at the next practice? Some teachers wouldn't go for our request to be sent to the vice principal because we couldn't miss practice. Maybe they already knew that we would get paddled for missing practice so just wanted to double our punishment with detention and then a paddling. Coaches usually paddled harder than teachers so getting a coach paddling was a serious thing to avoid if we could. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ]

What was the norm as to # of swats given as a trade-off to avoid after school detention? Was the coach's paddling harder because he was the coach & trying to 'toughen up' his athlete boys OR the fact that a paddling by coach meant only thin shorts/jockstrap for swats? Author: David [ Edit | View ] Date Posted: 20:46:26 11/11/15 Wed The trick was getting a teacher who wanted to give us detention to send us off to the vice principal to be paddled instead. We didn't have to talk the vice principal into paddling us. If we were in trouble and in his office, then that was going to happen anyway. The standard paddling was three hard swats although it was possible to get more. Four or five at most and not that often did a boy get five. The best answer is that coaches seemed to swat harder than teacher but you make a good point that we were usually wearing little or nothing for coach swats. Wearing a gym shorts with only a jockstrap underneath is no different than getting paddled in our underpants. Football pants with a jockstrap was about the same. We really didn't have any team uniforms that provided much butt protection when I think about it. I played football, baseball, basketball, wrestled, and swam. I felt lucky to get swats wearing anything at all because I was familiar with the bare butt swats too. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

Spankings were a painful unpleasant thing. Mom never gave me a choice. Her main act of discipline was to spank me. If anohter form wa sused it often was along with her paddle. Teacher's didn't really give detentions, and then getting in trouble meant a trip to the office, which meant a paddling, which meant a spanking at home.
